Horrible Idle after warming up

Want to say this topic has come up before but here it is.

Start up the truck in the morning and sounds healthy and runs great. After it has warmed up a bit it seems like it doesnt idle well at stop lights....Always end up putting it in N and it idles better. also once its warmed up and I stop at the store or something and fire it back up it hates idleing. Have to keep foot on brake and gas to keep it going until I start driving forward again.

Any thoughts?

327 with Edelbrock performer carb (Carb is 8 years old now).

I have the exact same problem with my 66 and I still have yet to figure out what it is. When cold it runs fine, and driving is fine as well. But come to a stop...the idle goes way down and the thing struggles to stay idling...rev it up and still have issues...go to take off and have no power..engine stumbles and misfires and once going all is fine again. Bring it home...the engine dies...run it on choke and it clears right up...but the minute I take off and come to a stop...I have idle problems again. I'm starting to wonder if edelbrock carbs are crap or if the gas is just so bad that its corn oil. My 600 is on an old worn out 292 6 banger that has ran fine for the past 4 years(1 year with this carb) and now recently has issues with that. Life time warranty on the carb and I'm debating for the heck of it just throwing a brand new carb on there to see if it fixes the issue. But my engine is so old it could be the valve train as well. Who knows. lol

If you have keep it choked to get it to run then obviously it's way lean on the A/F ratio like in restricted fuel delivery, low fuel pressure, low float level, vacuum leak, etc.

That sounds exactly like my Harley in the spring when I have forgotten to put Stabil in the fuel. Maybe a clogged jet? Some friends of mine swear by Seafoam additive to clean that junk out, but I have not tried it.

I never started Having these issues until I stopped running sea foam. Now I'm running it like crazy again. lol Well, I'll try a float adjustment...I never really drove the truck for more than 10-12 miles..and lately I've been putting some 30 miles at a time on it and that's when I started having the issues...guess its finally give the carb long enough to get hot or whatever. But I done stole this thread. lol

I ll try messing with the carb and drop some sea foam in there. Maybe put a new inline filter in also. Was just my weekend home depot runner and what not but have been needing it more as a daily driver and started to notice it also.

Throw a timing light on it. Your timing may be slightly off and has been compensated for with enriched or leaned AF ratio and idle speed. It also never hurts to run a new fuel filter and Seafoam through it as well.

What manifold are you running?

Did the truck sit for anytime?

Are you running any adapters on the manifold?

Edelbrocks are great carbs and they are simple to rebuild/tune. As long as you have a 7/16 drill bit and a quarter you can set the floats. If you have let it set for a while, new fuels turn into a sticky mess inside the carb. Watch the youtube videos and pull the top off to see if the floats are working. Fuel float needle and seats need to be checked to see if they are gummed up.

I vote for a vacuum leak as the problem. Seems like maybe a vacuum leak that gets worse when things heat up. Could be AF ratio but I think it's a vaccum leak. Is the choke manual or electric? I really don't know much about Edelbrock carbs.

Nothing wrong with ebroch carbs. Todays gas has a 30 day shelf life then it begins to break down. If you are not running through tanks then you need an additive like stabile. If it were me, I would look for vacuum leaks as suggested, then pull the carb apart and blow out the jets, take a look at the floats, etc. Rebuild that sucker...8 yrs it a good life.
