Rear suspension interchange between earlier & later frames

A guy in our club just picked up a '66 with a completely bare rear frame(no rearend, springs, trailing arms or driveshaft).
I'm looking to buy a trailer made out of a '61 rear bed/frame half. I only need the tailgate & bed parts, so does anyone know if any/all of the suspension & rearend will work on his truck? It'll let me know how much to offer on the trailer if he'll get use out of the parts too.

Re: Rear suspension interchange between earlier & later frames

short answer, no
the trailing arm pads are mounted on the rear farther apart, and the track bar is longer.
the trailing arms are the same as far as I know, and the springs might work

I was able to set a 64 rear in my 61, using the 64 trailing arms, but I was not able to get the pads to mate up with the trailing arms.

if your friend is going to modify and lower it, he can get an adjustable track bar, and then order some 60-72 pads and mount them on the 61 rear.
what you have on the trailer might be enough for him to be able to move his truck around for the short term-roller

Re: Rear suspension interchange between earlier & later frames

So trailing arms & springs probably yes, track bar no, & rearend won't fit without modification.

Thank you!

Re: Rear suspension interchange between earlier & later frames

You will have to put the upper shock mounts from the 61 onto the 66 frame.
