Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

I am putting a crate engine in a '77 K10. The intake manifold is cracked in a couple places. I have looked for a replacement and cannot find one. Anyone know if anyone sells a new replacement? I have called a couple of the aftermarket companies and both said they no longer sell ANY manifolds for ANY applications that are legal in CA. Any ideas on how to find a replacement that will still pass smog?

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

Your telling me the performer intake from edelbrock isn't legal? Yet another reason why I don't understand people living in CA. Nobody is going to sell new OEM style intakes because they are garbage and a dime a dozen [literally, scrap prices] at junkyards across the nation.

http://www.jegs.com/shop/ProductDisp...0-3701&langId=

Has the EGR and it says 50 state smog legal. If you buy it, don't buy a choke block off kit, the manifold comes with one.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

If it's a SBC, Edelbrock makes smog legal intakes.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

Howdy neighbor.
The Edelbrock Performer 3701 manifold used to carry a E.O. (executive order) number from C.A.R.B. but according to Edelbrock's website, no longer does. Below are the only two aftermarket manifolds that are currently listed on the C.A.R.B. website.

EO: D-115-9
EO Date: 1997-11-17
Manufacturer Name: Holley Performance Products
Device: Chevy Systemax Intake Manifold
Device Type: Intake Manifold
Part_Number: Model_Specification: Modification_Allowed: Remarks:
300-48 1967-1986 GM vehicles equipped with 5.7L engines It is an intake manifold manufactured out of aluminum with high rise dual plane design, divided plenum, EGR provision, and square flange carburetor mounting

OR

EO: D-256
EO Date: 1992-05-21
Manufacturer Name: Weiand Automotive Industries
Device: Intake Manifold Model 8000
Device Type: Intake Manifold
Part_Number: Model_Specification: Modification_Allowed: Remarks:
1962-1986 carbureted "small block" Chevy vehicles with 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, or 400 CID engines

I would imagine that as long as it has the provision for EGR, (which the 3701 performer does have) and the valve is there and functional, chances are you won't have an issue but if you want to be sure, then purchase a manifold that has the E.O. number or hit the junkyard for a stocker from a pickup or a aluminum version from a mid 80's camaro / firebird.... (you can install newer OEM parts, just not older than your vehicles age)
U&I Auto Salvage in San Bernardino has a large selection or Galant's down in Oceanside.

Hope this helps,

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

my 454 has an Edelbrock Performer with EGR and the inspector did not bat an eye. But he did have an issue with a piece of hose not emissions compliant. The hose from v/c to air cleaner. Nit picky bastard! LOL

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

Thanks. I will look into the two you mentioned Jesse. My truck does not have EGR. But I bought it used. I hope someone didn't remove it previously. Anyone know how I can tell if my truck came equipped with EGR?

Does it have the vacuum diagram on the air cleaner?

If it is 73 up it has EGR or it's suppose to have it. And California requires it.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

Here is a picture of the air cleaner. It does have some kind of vacuum can that looks like it operates a door in the inlet.

So since it is a '77 it should have EGR?

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

That thing on top of the air cleaner at the front of the inlet is just a secondary choke. The EGR is down below that somewhere on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

I don't think it has EGR currently. Here is a photo showing where I think the EGR should on the intake manifold along with a photo of the PS exhaust manifold be but it isn't there. I don't know if it originally came with EGR. I just got the truck a few months ago.

Looks like no EGR to me, too. But I see an AIR pump tube... Odd...

Yes it will, originally. Cailif emissions testers will look for one too.

The manifold has no EGR provision but that does not mean much guys removed the EGR all the time. Since it is the biggest power robber of all the emission devices. Easy enough to swap out the manifold with a non EGR one

My thoughts also. 73 and newer should have EGR and our smog cops will fail you if you don't have it....
I've run the 3701 performer before and had no issues but then again when I bought it, it had a E.O. number but then again, nobody ever asked / looked for it either....

Don't use the first one that was listed as that calls for a square bore carburetor so you wont be able to use your Quadrajet which you need to keep to pass visual also....
Your only option is the second one listed or the Edelbrock 3701 or a stock unit...

For 1977, 6000 lbs GVW was the transition point for "light duty" vs. "heavy duty" as far as emissions is concerned. Since your 77 is a K10, I believe your truck's GVW rating is 6200 lbs. That would put it in the "heavy duty" emissions category.

According to the emissions equipment chart on page 101 of the 1977 Chevy truck vehicle info kit from the GM Heritage Center, the "heavy duty" emissions 350 & 400 small blocks were not originally equipped with EGR for either federal or California.

That chart also shows that all "light duty" (6000 lbs GVW & under) emissions engines were equipped with EGR. And the 454 was the only engine in the "heavy duty" category to have EGR for 77.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

Well I just talked to a guy at the smog station and he said that trucks with a GVWR over 6000# for a 1977 K10 do not need EGR. So it sounds like I don't have to worry about that at least. Now just need to try to find an non-EGR intake manifold. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

76-77 were the lucky ca emissions trucks all you had to do was order heavy brakes or a 4x4 to get away from egr and a catalytic converter my 76 c10 came this way even had true dual exhaust from factory
Here you go if you are worried about emissions you wont find a non egr intake that is ca legal but if you paint up either of these to match motor and have all other equipment hooked up and functional the smog tech will likely just overlook it

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

I ended up buying this manifold http://www.professional-products.com...atin-p187.html.

It says it is basically a stock replacement and I liked that it did not have and name cast into it. I am planning on painting it like Brandon said and don't want an aftermarket companies name for the tech to see. Hopefully it wont cause me any trouble.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Cracked intake manifold. Where to find replacement?

You could even get a set of number and letter stamps and put the gm part number and firing order on the flat space in the front by the carb flange
