No T, actually most parts and trucks are a bit less here because there are so many of them around. The are some high things here but usually not prices on parts

You may be surprised on that. Most of the 67-72 trucks here were bought to use and they have step bumpers for the most part. I do see sport bumpers from time to time but they are not as common as you might think. A lot of C20's here.

I guess if you pro-rate the tailgate with the $40k Barrett-Jackson retail for a whole '67-'72 GM truck, it seems reasonable. But then I don't spend $500 bucks for my faded ripped blue jeans on Rodeo Blvd. I buy 'em as cheap as I can new indigo blue and they just get that way. Same with trucks.

It's only "gold" if some fool buys it, otherwise, it's idiocy.

I came across a 1968 truck I liked, good shape but a bit rusty, asking price, $25,000!!!!!

I called the guy, expecting the price to be mistake. "No" he said. We talked a bit, I made him an offer, and it was clear he was just trying to pacify his wife by saying "well honey, I tried to sell it." Not being married, I don't really understand his methods.

I think I would have researched the market for 67-72 Chevy truck tailgates before I asked the amount the seller asking. Too many NOS gates as well as very nice take offs and even very clean used ones to demand this money.

If you look at the "sellers other items" you will noticed that a sprinkle of gold has landed on everything he is selling.

Just my thoughts,

As far as shipping goes, if I bought that tailgate I would come and get it, because you just know it going to get damaged in shipping.

I don't think there's a lot of value in people asserting they wouldn't pay for it. He doesn't need 500 buyers, he needs one.

Why don't you all wait until it sells (or doesn't) before deciding who's stupid, an idiot, or joking.

Not usually with these trucks, but people do restore vehicles to high levels, and most serious enthusiasts about a particular type of vehicle can spot repop sheet metal, particularly when it's embossed like the tailgate.

Also, take a list of his sold items. Would you pay $400 for an owner's manual? Someone did. Who's the idiot when a seller and a buyer agree on a price for a quantity-constrained item? So while you're all laughing at him and his customers, he's making money and his customers are getting products they want.

Now I do see it as a different story for wear items. I bought a $250 repro R59 battery instead of a $1500 NOS unit because they only last a few years.

[And no I've never heard of the guy, don't own a shortbox, and my tailgate is a minty original, even better than what passes for NOS a lot of times]
