Bouncy Fuel Gauge
What is normal for our rigs? How much should the needle bounce?
I have a 1972 K5 and recently replaced the original cluster with a restored cluster. After taking the rig out for a test drive after replacing the cluster I noticed the gas gauge bounces a lot. I have to be honest, I don't drive the rig much since buying it so I don't remember what it was like with the original gas gauge. How much bouncing needle is normal from sloshing gas in the tank? Mine will bounce and when coming to a stop at a red light, it will not stop bouncing before the light turns green again. This seems excessive to me. I don't think it is really a question of how long it bounces but how much.
Mine will move a little bit, but not much. I think these trucks had slow moving gas gauges, you might just have one now that moves a lot faster. Also, how much does it bounce? Around 1/4 of the gauge?

Mine doesn't bounce much. The slider and float go Up And down slow so that doesn't happen. Or isn't supposed to happen.

I had a gas gauge do that once and it turned out to be something wrong with the gauge. I took it out and just by shaking the gauge the needle would move. The needle is supposed to have a little bit of resistance in it, but this one you could blow on and make the needle move. Changed it out and never had a problem again.
