Wiper transmissions

Could anyone tell me the difference between 47-53 wiper transmissions & 54-55's? Thanks

Re: Wiper transmissions

47-53 used a very short link for the driver side and a long for the passenger side. The 54-55 first linkage was almost equal in length on each side with a different wiper motor.

Re: Wiper transmissions

Ah I see, I have a 49 but I picked up a 54 wiper kit hoping to use it. I guess I need to either get the 54 transmissions & work with them or find someone who'll let me get a template or measurements from a 47-53

Re: Wiper transmissions

For a while I used a 62 electric motor in my 59. I just lengthed and shortened the arms to get them to work. IF you do not care about them not being stock some one could probably get you the measurements and configuration to modify what you have.

Re: Wiper transmissions

Looking at images they look to be straight, not bent like later models. Tricky part would be fabricating the ball socket end that mounts to the transmission end, you could adapt a mini-heim rod end. Wiper motor end is a hole for the grommet. maybe a AD guy here can supply center to center dimensions or you could use round rod and a threaded rod end.

Re: Wiper transmissions

I'm not positive but was the 54/5 wiper motor relocated more to the center of the truck than the 47/53 one was?

For show and tell only: https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/shop/s...T&Seach=Search

Scroll down the page and there are photos of both styles of wiper transmissions.

Re: Wiper transmissions

Yeah I guess if both arms are the same length then it must be in the middle. Anyone got a 47-53 driver's side transmission arm? Thanks
