Cool Engine issues

When I start the engine for the first time of the day, it actually sounds like rolling on a flat tire. Never heard an engine sound like that before. Grinds sometimes a little bit. Oil gauge does not work properly.
Any suggestions? My mom is on me to get rid of it and buy something newer.

Side note: when I clean the throttle body it runs better. And doesn't seem to kill at stop lights. But does rev itself when idling. I'm starting to think 90 was the worst year for gm. My oldest brother had a 90 camaro in high school bought brand new, gave nothing but problems, and he drives like an old lady.

Re: Engine issues

You might want to try connecting a temporary mechanical oil pressure gauge so you can see what's really going on. That doesn't explain the idling problem, but might give you insight into the noises on startup.

Re: Engine issues

Timing chain, when you first start it, pop the hood and see where you hear the noise, any oil leaks?

Re: Engine issues

^yep, its leaking pretty bad onto the crossmember looks like its coming from the timing cover where the cam goes in. And around the timing cover gasket. I'll take a video in the morning and upload it. Thanks guys.
