6×9 speakers# which ones you running/recommend
I came across some boxes that fit into the corner cab of a 73-87 Chevy truck that hold a 6x9 speaker. Too many brand names to choose from.
Do You Get What You Pay For As Far As 6x9 speakers go? Which ones are the best under a 100 bucks ? What do ways mean? Some say 2 way,3 way,4 way etc? Should I run a amp? thanks for the help.... don't know what I'm talking about as far as electronics/audio goes. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 6×9 speakers# which ones you running/recommend
I just bought some 3 way 4x10 from Boss, and I just love them, I am not one to thump the radio to loud but in the truck cab they work great. Here is a 6x9 just like the 4x10 that I bought. The 3 way refers to a mid range and tweeter, and the main speaker, 2 way would mean a tweeter and the main speaker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-New-BOSS-C...item35cc2254fb

Re: 6×9 speakers# which ones you running/recommend
Go to Crutchfield to learn, then Amazon or some other site to buy. Sometimes Crutchfield has a great deal going on certain brands of speakers though. For instance I got my Infinity 6.5" components and 3.5" in-dash speakers for $150. Separately they would have been ~$200. Crutchfield also has great customer support, I just think some of their stuff is priced a little high.
For 6x9's, there is a member on here that makes brackets that look pretty slick. I bought them but haven't had the chance to install them yet. Some would argue that a 3-way 6x9 is kind of worthless behind the seat because you won't get the full effect of the tweeter as the sound will be blocked off by the seat and not at an optimal position to get the maximum benefit. If you get a good deal on a set of speakers I say go for it, don't limit your search. I really don't know a whole bunch about car audio, but I know a little. I'll be learning quite a bit more in the near future as I install my system. |

For the money, I think the Pioneer 6x9 5 way's are the stuff!! I have 2 sets in my Suburban and they sound great. You can run them on deck power but to get the real experience from them, they need an amp. I would suggest a Rockford Fosgate Prime 600 X 4 if your running 4 speakers. If your running only 2 speakers then I suggest a Rockford Fosgate Prime 300 4 channel and bridge it to 2 channels. I'm including a link for all 3. If your looking to spend some real money then, we can talk about Focal speakers and ARC amps. That's what I have on my motorcycle. With straight pipes on a 113 CI engine at 70 mph, I can hear the stereo nicely!!!

Re: 6×9 speakers# which ones you running/recommend
For big box brands, I like Alpine, Pioneer and Kicker...but only if your buying the slightly upmarket stuff. All 3 can make some pretty bad ultra-cheap speakers, and some pretty great mid to high end stuff.
6x9's are fine, just keep in mind that they are a higher surface area speaker. They are made to move more air, meaning better bass. They will distort easier tho, which means that at higher volume, they will become less-clear, faster. I wouldn't recommend them as your ONLY speaker, but as a fill or a rear speaker they are just fine. If its possible, I'd try to pair them with some 4.25, 5.25, or 6.5 front speakers; ideal a set of components. They will be much more responsive and clear for the voices/guitars/synths in the music. Components have the tweeter mounted seperately and use a crossover (basically a filter) to feed the right sounds to the right speakers for the best audio. They cost a bit more than entry level 2 and 3 way speakers, but they are the standard in higher quality audio systems. Generally we need higher volume because of how loud the cabs of truck can be, so you'll fight distortion as I mentioned above. This will be made worse if your only using the head-unit power. An amp will help your clarity and still give you the power you need for higher volume listening. A small 4channel is all you'll need for front and rear.
