What does a 2" chop look like on the 3100s?

Started my build. I'm getting pretty close to having to decide if I will chop it 1 1/2- 2 1/2". Have no reference and pretty hard to find pics online. Joping someone on here could send me some pics.

Take into consideration that practically no one will cut you a windshield or back window to fit and if they do it make take 3 or 4 before you get a good one.
Secondly they look like tanks without a turret when chopped and not sectioned to match the chop

The glass is easy. We own a glass shop. We already do a lot of glass work for custom shops in the area. However I don't know what you mean by needing to be sectioned to match the chop. I've seen pictures along time ago and they were just about 1 1/2 - 2" chop. I thought it was really subtle. However I can't seem to find anyone who has done one and posted it anywhere. I can't be the only who just wants that's subtle difference.

I personally don't think you can go more than an inch without getting into the pregnant whale look. Even at that you may have to pancake the hood. IMHO these trucks just don't chop well.

I am with everyone else...chops dont look good on these trucks.
But working the hood is a must if you are going to do it.
It is your truck do what you want you can always go back if you want

I've always thought the tops were too tall for the rest of the truck. This is 3" with the back window the stock size and the hood cut 1 3/4". I left the drip rail for stock effect. I guess the look isn't for everyone and I tried to talk myself out of it for a year, thinking that shaving the drip rail and one piece windows would clean up the top. In the end, I like how it looks and that's what counts.

Re: What does a 2" chop look like on the 3100s?

what year would help?
ad with flat glass or a tf with curved glass?

i'm all for customizing a truck to fit your tastes but be aware of the pitfalls
it's a lot of work, many good intentioned chop jobs end up on craigslist or ebay for pennies
if this is your first build i'd tread carefully so as not to make a pile of scrap out of your truck

speedbump has one of the finest looking chops on a tf that you can find,
the heavily chopped green one looks awkward

read my signature and put the year and model of your truck in your sig

Re: What does a 2" chop look like on the 3100s?

I chopped my truck 4" back in the seventies, and yes, it is too much. It's now sectioned 2.5 inches and I thought the 4" would be fine. After I got to working on it I unchopped it a half inch.

Now it's 3.5 inch chop and a 2.5 inch section...perfect if you ask me. Also note though that the center rear window is enlarged bigger than stock. I widened it about 3 inches.

That is some good stuff! Lining up those window openings is killer. It was the same idea I had when leaving the rear factory length. It lines up the windows. I also think the big window cabs don't lend themselves to chopping as well because of the glass.

Truck is a 1950 3100. I feel like stock is too high but just want something subtle. I'm leaning towards 1 1/2"

I went a little more...4 1/2 in the back and 6 1/2 in the front.

Very well done.. The dimensions all look correct. Obviously a lot of time and thought out right. Great truck

Thank you. I can say the same about the AD truck you show. It looks "right."

It's not mine but I've known the builder for years. The truck's immaculate!!

The same builder is doing the fab work on my '51 GMC now.
