Courtesy/tail light fuse issue

71 Jimmy- When I apply breaks and right turn signal at same time i blow the fuse. Also, I just noticed that when my emergency flashers are on and I apply the breaks, my under dash courtesy lights flash too (even with blown courtesy light fuse). Everything worked fine until yesterday. I did replace my fuse panel and under dash wiring with factory replacement about a month ago. Other than that, I have made no recent modifications to wiring... any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Start by checking your grounds, a lose or poorly connected ground can cause some funny stuff

Re: Courtesy/tail light fuse issue

I discovered today that if the hazards are on and I activate the turning indicator that it blows the hazard fuse... Im thinking the turn signal switch in the column might be shorting out somehow....

Sounds like a short in the turn signal somewhere. The hazards and turn signals are on the same harness coming down from the steering column. It has a plastic Sheath on it on the bottom of the column. Might Be a wire touching ground in there. Or possible the turn signal switch itself. Wire could be pinched somewhere down the line. Have to troubleshoot the wiring again. Sucks you Just replaced some of it to have problems again a month later.

I agree. I have gone through standard troubleshooting procedures up to the connection from main harness to turn signal harness. Main harness is good. Process of elimination

Re: Courtesy/tail light fuse issue

It could short through the light harness as well which is your next journey I'm guessing. It runs through along the frame and fuel line so it can get rubbed and short. Also the light sockets themselves can short as well and cause a blown fuse.

Re: Courtesy/tail light fuse issue

I disconnected the taillight wiring harness at the firewall so I ellimated that as a potential issue. All indicators (no pun intended) point to the column turn signal harness...

Re: Courtesy/tail light fuse issue

Definitely points to that. Eliminates half the wiring and you know the dash harness is new.
