Read Disc Caliper Question
Quick question. Since I swapped the rear brakes on my 14-bolt to the 3/4 ton discs, is there a caliper with the e-brake that will fit the 3/4 ton rotors? (They are the same as on the front of the late '70's 10 and 20 series.) Thanks for your time.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
78-79 Caddy Eldorado calipers. They have the self adjusting e-brake system but IIRC I believe people were having problems with this feature so many scraped the idea of using them. It's been a while since I did my homework on the subject but the problems I read were enough of an issue for me to opt out of using the Eldo calipers and just use 3/4 ton front truck calipers. I have been using a line lock for ebrake detail but now I have a HAD t-case ebrake about to go in.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
My truck had elderado calipers on it when I bought it. The parking brake didn't hold, and braking was not the best. I installed the larger c20 calipers. Braking is a lot better, but still no parking brake.
I would not waste the time or money with trying to use the elderado calipers. I am still looking for options for a parking brake. I would love a drive line parking brake, but my transfer case has a slip yoke. |

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
If you don't have a state inspection you could run a hydraulic parking brake.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
ya, a line locker. I did this for a few years. The first one worked well and lasted a few years but the second one died on the sixth time using it. When it died the truck to a ride out of the driveway, over the rock retaining wall which was a four foot drop, across the lawn, and into a tree. lucky it's height cleared the large rocks as it bounced over and the rear bumper saved body damage.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
I have been using the caddy calipers for 7 years. I don't run the truck in the winter but have had no problems with them. Still original pads. Over 65000 miles towing and hauling always.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
Alternative to those doing discs but haven't bought anything yet. I would like to try this but for now I'm running 1/2 calipers in the rear. They are 1/2 ton sized pistons but came on an 8 lug front.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
You are probably right. I saw them listed in another post, and the price looked right. Hopefully it is not too good to be true.
edit- just messaged the seller. I will post the answer.

Re: Read Disc Caliper Question
Go to any GM dealer and buy a bracket kit from a 99 and newer 2500 truck.
Then go to RockAuto and buy Calipers & Rotors. You can also look into a 03 and newer van setup. It'll be a little pricier though. Depending on your axle, you may have to have an adapter or weld on flange made. |
