9.58 @ 138.86

Well got some passes out yesterday.

Best motor pass was 10.6x @ 126.x with a 1.64 60'.. Changes from my 10.38 pass:
Went from 4.56 gear to 3.90
Went from 254/260 cam to 259/274, gained overlap which I am sure moved peak TQ up in RPM
took 100lbs out

I attribute the slow down to the gears, cam, and converter (4,800ish on motor) not being optimized together, well, at least for motor passes.

First try at a bottle pass, the controller did not come on. Having fought with controllers in the passed, I bypassed it as I didn't want to be screwing with it all night. I think I have an EMI issue under WOT.

Rolled in to the throttle to make sure things were good and cut a whopping 1.73 60' but ran my best MPH ever, 139.56 with a 9.9x.. Well that was very promising.

Next pass I tried off the transbrake and the motor pulled an additional 10* timing due to false know. It fell flat on its face and I aborted the run.

I ran it off the the foot brake again rolling in a little harder and it went 9.9x again at 138.x.

Tightened the front shock 2 clicks and went off the t-brake again. 9.58 @ 138.86 spinning. It is lifting both fronts and unloading the radial on the way down. Slip attached.

Tightened the front shocks 2 more clicks (now fully tight) and tried again. This time it blew the tires off even harder (2 cars with street tires went before me).

By this time is was 9:35 and track closes at 10:00. I decided to wrap it up and be happy with those results.

Here is the video of my 9.58 pass, both full speed and slow motion.

Interesting I only saw tire smoke of the left rear tire out there around the 60.

Hey,, she made passes and your not tearing it apart to fix something!!! The bad luck seems to be over!!!! YEAH!!!!!

I expect more MPH out of her for 9.5's Did you roll out of it early?

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Marv,

Very happy it came home with the only thing "needed" being an oil change. Pass was more like a 9.60 being 9.58, but my buddy Dan asked me the same thing. Remember it went 9.82@132mph previously.

Hotrod,

I am sure it would work fine with a 10.5w as a slick is a goods bit more forgiving. I will get it sorted out at some point. When I get it to go 8.9x with the radial then I might consider putting a slick on it.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

The visor over the windshield and the big ol squared off front end makes it aerodynamically challenged for sure.

Using the conversion
(1/8 ET + 0.22)/ 0.655 you should be at 9.61,, she is meeting the 'normal'.

I think you just need to put more pill in it (LOL)

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Let me get the 60' dialed and I will put the second stage on it. I will be ordering a new pair of front springs in the near future.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Were the gear and cam changes made for when you go turbo? Are you hitting your peak power numbers thru the traps? Even if you haven't the time to get the glass front end, what about a glass bumper at least to slightly decrease your frontal drag. Has your chassis guy said anything about 4 link changes? I would get everything nailed down with the first stage then go on to the second because you may end up softening things with more power.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Dan,

The gear had to be changed regardless. I want to go 8.90 on the bottle this year before I consider switching to the turbos. I have unfinished business with the N20. I think I am going to need 153mph to reach my goal. Even with the new 3.90, I am at 6,800 almost 6,900rpm going through the traps right now at 138-139mph. This has me a little concerned about the 3.90 gear I put in it. The old cam peaked at 6,900-7,000 and I am guessing the new cam might carry a pinch further but I have not had it on the dyno yet. This cam is definitely not a "turbo" cam. 259/274 on a 109icl with a 113 lsa.

I won't have time this month to mount the front end for the race June 2, but going to try and get it mounted before the July race.

I talked to my buddy who is pretty good with chassis, he was actually at the track with me. The only change I thought we might be able to try with out changing parts (but thought of it on the way home) was changing the IC to be a little shorter. This would increase antisquat percentage and could slow the front rise down. But.. That increases initial hit on the tire. I feel it might be ok since it is dead hooking out of the hole for the first 3-5'. He wasn't sure how it would react with the radial, might start to get to violent.

I plan on getting the 1st stage dialed before adding a second.

Rick,

I have tried a NOS launcher and now have a Modotek (Daytona Sensor NC2) both work in the garage, but don't work at the track. I believe I have an EMI issue with my plug wires. In doing some dyno testing, I went from a stock wire to a Granatelli as they have a nice thermal wrap around the boot, claim 20rwhp gain and give a lifetime warranty. Skeptical of the hp claim, I did a back to back dyno with no changes to the tune and picked up 19rwhp but my usb mouse no longer worked with the truck running. Swapped back to OE wires, lost the power but the mouse would work again with the truck running. Back to the new wires, again gained the power but mouse was dead while the truck was running.

The NC2 has a live view/data logger function. The RPM lines up with my tach and ECM read out at idle, but the minute you give it throttle, it is extremely slow and does not read properly. Perhaps I need a filter for the controller with these wires. I am going to test with OE wires and the noids disabled.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Super , The Daytona system looks like a nice piece and I like the logging. Just a thought but is your progressive wiring in a separate wire loom so not to get feedback from any other wiring. Like thought of the "unfinished business" with the n2. Kinda where I am right now myself. What are you thinking N2 HP wise to get you to 8.9x.
I bought a Leash progressive for mine. Also will be on a 315 drag radial now and will need to go to a 3.90 from a 4.30.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

Well just weighed the truck and it sure makes sense as to why it unloads the tire once the front starts coming down weight is with me in the seat:

3,120 total
1,820 front
1,300 rear

I will be ordering some new springs shortly.

Rick,

I think once everything is sorted out on the first stage (78n jet, showed 170rwhp on a chassis dyno), I think it's got a 9.4x in it. With that said, I am planing on putting another 200rwhp worth on it. Might detune the first stage to a 100rwhp hit when I add the 200 second stage until I get it sorted. But I'f I can't go 8.9x with that, well, I am not sure what to do

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

That mph is similar to what mine was at that et. Theres alot to be had in the 60 ft though! That 6.09 1/8the mile with only a 1.49 60 says its running very good. A set of slicks could put it in the fives.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

I ordered a new spring. Ironically it is the same morosso 47140 I used to run at 3,8xx lbs. I know I am going to have to trim it to get my stance and that will make the spring stiffer than the advertised 240lb rate. We will see if it shows it down enough.

Re: 9.58 @ 138.86

What shocks are on it front and rear? One thing it needs is limiters on the front. Also put the tailgate back on it you need the weight. One thing I saw was it looked like the front came up to far and there was not much of any seperation in the back like the rebound is to tight. It also settled on the tire pretty quickly and that may be a soft compression setting. A shorter instant center will hit the tires quicker but may not keep them hooked. What is the instant center height and length now?
