K20 Crew Cab Short Bed Conversion

I'm knee deep into a conversion, and I figured it's time to consult the experts

A link to the build thread I've started is here:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/chevy...w-what-do.html

The K20 chassis I bought was customized to put a Humvee body on,
the purist in me couldn't drive a hummer with straight axles so I decided to build crew cab short bed for some light off roading and camping rig.

Unfortunately it seems as if the motor has been pushed back about 8" allowing the body to sit half way on top of the rear tires.

Can you guys help me to understand how to move up the motor mounts the best way?

The drive shaft will need to be lengthened, so I was going to go pick up a 89 suburban drive shaft, since I thought it would be long enough - can you guys confirm this for me?

If the pics from Pirate4x4 doesn't load, I'll post them on here.

Thank you guys for your time.

the best way I see is go on the parts board and but an original engine and trans crossmember to get the motor back in its factory location. should be the cheapest part of your whole endeavor so far

Thankfully it's all been relatively inexpensive thus far, but definitely a huge snag nonetheless.

Thanks for the quick response and tip, I'll look on there and see what I can find.

I remember seeing that frame on craigslist not that long ago.And like said get a oem engine cross member and put it back where it goes.It does look like they kept the stock trans cross member just pushed it back and drilled new holes. You will have to change the driveshafts when you do this but you can run a factory front but the rear will have to be made since its gonna be a short bed maybe.

Haha, Yeah I got tired of looking at it and I didn't know what to do with it, so I tried to sell it..

Since finding these converted crewcab short beds, it gave me the inspiration I needed.

If those mounts are still factory, is it as simple as unbolting, jacking up the motor and trans, moving engine back to factory location, (Which I don't know where that is exactly - any help with that? ) drilling holes and rebolting back up?

Is there any bushing required to go around the mounts to help with vibration?

Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!!
