Hood hinge choices
What are my options for quality hood hinges without going to a pair of 600.00 billets? 1980 C10

Re: Hood hinge choices
There is a Taiwanese company that makes very nice hoods hinges, but I don't think they sell under their own name. I don't know if they're available for our trucks, but I bought a pair for a 55 car from a 55-57 Chevy vendor based on his recommendation and what I had heard on a forum. Turns out they were very well made, equal to or better than OEM in my opinion. I think all their hinges are painted (or plated?) silver.
I'd also try Classic Parts. I've had good luck with their products and support. http://www.classicparts.com/1973-80-.../#.VVHtyo5VhBc http://www.classicparts.com/1973-80-.../#.VVHt_I5VhBc Springs: http://www.classicparts.com/1973-80-.../#.VVHukI5VhBc

Re: Hood hinge choices
I know plenty people carry the OE style but I figured they may damage the hood like the old ones did. Thought maybe someone knew of a better designed hinge without spending 600 for billets. I don't mind spending a little more than the regular ones though.

Re: Hood hinge choices
Options are pretty much the billet hinges, sisco hinges or factory stuff.
The WAM Rods kit is for 81 & up. I went with the EMS billet hinges & love them... About the best pics I could find on short notice... Here are the Sisco hinges... |

Re: Hood hinge choices
I hate to seem like such a tight ass but this thing is getting to be way more than I planned to spend. I know those are worth it though.

Re: Hood hinge choices
I have hinges already so junkyard probably won't be any different. I'm just replacing them so I don't mess up my new hood. I'll just buy a set from LMC to with new springs and the hood brace kit.

Re: Hood hinge choices
You are saying that your current hinges are no good? I have seen plenty of hinges that operate fine on truck hoods in the junkyards. Unless the truck has been hit hard in the front, they don't go bad out here in the desert. 73-80 trucks are a different story, since they have an older design with big clunky hinges that crunch the hood when they get old. I would take good used hinges over Chinese LMC hinges any day - but each to his or her own.

Re: Hood hinge choices
What do you mean about the OEM hinges damaging the hood? Also, what does the LMC hood brace kit look like, and why use it?
Thanks.

Here is the brace kit... http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/CC/full.aspx?page=14 Your truck being a 82 has a different style hinge that doesn't seem to have this issue (or at least not as common). This damage is another reason I decided to get away from the factory style hinges on my truck. |

Re: Hood hinge choices
I'm trying to be proactive. The hinges I have are a little hard as well as keep the hood from resting flush up by the cowl. I didn't want to leave them on a crack the hood.

Re: Hood hinge choices
There is a guy out there that rebuilds the GM hinges. I was going to have him do my chevelle hinges. I'm going to try and dig up his site.

Re: Hood hinge choices
The rivets wear and create slop in the hinge in addition to springs.
