question about aftermarket radio? ways to secure it better?
so after days of debating with myself, i cut the dash in my 1967 k10 for a new radio. the bracket the holds the radio fit mostly snug in the hole, but it is a little lose and the radio can but moved a little. I put a piece of foam between the bottom of the radio and the ashtray to give it a little support. any idea on how i could secure the radio better? any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Typically any radio will have a support brace or bracket to the side or rear of the case. On aftermarkets its generally a heavy section like plumbers tape.
As far as foam goes its probably not a good idea for a number of reasons and I'd pull it out.

Yeah, you have to make sure the foam is not covering any cooling holes. They sometimes put pretty powerful amplifiers in modern radios and they get hot.

there will be a stud in the back of the radio to attatch a piece of pipe strap onto. use that to secure it to the firewall

Most of the little tabs you bend are made for a thicker dash, cut the holding case with a dremel disc so you can bend them farther. Hope that makes sense, don't cut off anything, know what I mean? I'm assuming you hooked up the strap. And yea ditch that foam!
