Question Heavy clutch pedal?

I have a 1971 C20 with the 4 speed muncie with a granny gear. Ever since I got the truck a few years back, I've noticed that it takes a lot of force to depress the clutch pedal. I've never driven any other truck so I don't know if it's normal or not, but I'd say it's easily double or triple the force required in a today's cars.

The pedal travels half of the way down fairly easily, and then reaches a point where it really takes effort to depress it. Does that sound normal?

Re: Heavy clutch pedal?

Check out the alignment of the pivot balls, and any wear on the Z-bar. Also, grease is your friend. Worn engine mounts can put things out of kilter, too. The '69 GMC has a pivot ball that is slowly unscrewing itself from the block, and some unknown magical force is holding the whole mess together. It's all coming out soon, anyway, but it makes shifting it around the yard a pain in the...leg.

Re: Heavy clutch pedal?

Mine is very stiff too. It is a bare foot work out! But I just blew my clutch so maybe after the fix things will be easier to push....
