Is the caddy 425 a boat anchor?

Or can i hop it up to 500hp and 500tq? i want to drop it in a 79 blazer

In stock form it might be a boat anchor but if you have the time and resources and some extra money, you can make it happen.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a 454 up to that power?

Depends how different you want to be,You can go cummins swap or a turbo v6 or turbo small block.

The 472/500 Caddys are a better choice. Not sure how much cubic money it would cost to build one to 500hp. But 500 lb/ft torque is easy. Especially with the 500. Best bet is to locate a 70 engine. They were Eldorado only at that point, which is good. They were the only ones with the rear sump. They also put out around 500 lb/ft torque stock. If you really want to be a bit different on top of that, in 76 they had a fuel injection option.

Or you can look in a olds or buick big blocks since you want different.
