lowerd shocks

Here is a quick question for all the people that have lowered their 67-72 with coil suspension.

I ordered 4" lowering coils on Friday and also got an adjustable panhard bar coming. What did evrybody use for lowered shocks?? I was going to try and get the specs for the factory shocks and then just get something shorter, but how short. I know the belltech shocks are the same for anywhere from a 2" drop all the way to 5" drop. I know most parts stores acrry evryday shocks for cheaper than belltech ones. Any suggestions???

I installed the bell tech shocks and am very disappointed in them.
The back of my truck has rattled since I installed them, and they really arent very strong....

Stock replacment shocks here... straight from the auto parts store. lol.... I have the same rear setup that you are going with btw.

By using the stock shocks, isn't the ride a bit worse and can they handle being 4" lower all the time???

How much shorter a shock do I really need???

you might think about a shock relocator kit(stands the shock back up), & I beleive moves the bottom position a tad lower. the stock shocks should work that way. You might try GMC Paul on the kit. Good luck,crazyL

Yeah I was thinking of doing that ( relocate the shocks). I am probably going to get them from the same company that I get my drop spindles from. I was looking at gmcpauls site yet again and am trying to compare all the different companies that sell them ( drop spindles) and checking shipping costs, ( have to ship up to the great white north).

Thanks for the input, I am currently waiting on the adjustable panhard bar ( should be in tomorrow) and the 4" drop coils ( should also be in tomorrow).

Once I get those installed I will see what the shock situation is. I don't drive the truck all that much right now ( out of town every week for work) so just plain cheap shocks will do for now ( just curious how much shorter I will need). But if I get the relocators I shouldn't need to get lowered shocks right?. Once I get more $$$ saved then who knows bags me be in the picture.

I have a 3/5 drop on my longhorn, & run stock lenght shocks(Monroe gas), on relocators both ends. My longhorn is a slightly different deal(leaf rear), so i had to make the shock reloactors....I dont have any problems with the ride tho.... good luck, crazyL

I have no clue!! I went from worn out shocks and springs all around to new springs, shocks, and to top it off disc brakes for the front!

Just finished mine over the weekend. Drop spindles on the front with stock Gabriel gas shocks, 3" drop springs on the rear with Doetsch Tech, relocator kit and adjustable panhard bar on the rear. Got it aligned today and the ride is great. The relocator is a must have, greatly improves the geometry for a smoother ride.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like I will be getting some relocators along with spindles, since I already have 4"drop coils and an adjustable panhard coming.

I will be contacting a few vendors to see what cost+shipping will be. Of course it will be the vendors that are members here.

So how did you get the drop in the back--with dropped/dearched leaf springs, mono leaf, or what? And what all went into making the relocators?

For the rear drop, I have flipped the axle, & removed leafs from the stack(I have 4 leafs vs the 7 or 8 originally in the stack). The spring hangers were also relocated on the frame , as the flip was more than a 5" drop. The brackets were moved down on the frame to raise it back up a tad(just a play with it to suit the stance deal). the top brackets were moved rearward on the frame to stand the rear shocks back up , & the lower shock brackets were fabbed & welded to the axle(not too big a deal on the rear shocks). the truck has also been swapped to 1/2 ton suspension, & runs a 12 bolt rear axle. I run a set of slapper bars to handle the wheel hop issues. up front , I have a cut coils up front (1 full ring), with stock 75 1/2 ton spindles. The front shock brackets were a little more work to set up, & basically bolt to the top of the rails , as well as to the side of the rails(a splayed pc of angle bolted down, with a 3 sided box or pc of channel welded to the top for the shocks top mount to. it worked out pretty well, the truck rides pretty decent crazyL

as far as the front goes the spindles will not afect the space of the shocks but springs will, i have factory style shocks on my truck with 3 inch spindles and 2 inch spings in front and 6 inch springs in the rear it still rides pleny good. but i dont anythin but azz in my truck....Steve

I'm using KYB gas-a-adjust in the front and Early Classic's KYB G2s in the rear with the relocators and adj. panhard bar. I tried the EC KYB up front but is was too soft on both rebound and compression. I am very pleased with my current setup. By the way I have a 3/5 drop.

ECE is by far the best Company I have worked with since I have been working on my truck!

Do you guys know if ECE will ship to Canada??? Seems I tried to get a quote from one of the vendors here and he will not sell to Canada. That will be one bookmark I will definetly get rid of.

I must say thanks to Mothertruckers who did send me a quote fairly quickly and will sell to me.

The other vendor will only sell to a US address, great I can get it shipped to a US address but it is still in the US and would have to pay to get it shipped to canada.

I think that if a vendor will not sell outside to us in Canada then he should no longer have his link on the site. I have spent alot of time on the site making a list of stuff and now I will not be getting from him. The reason was because there are to many credit card fraud and people not paying.

Sure whatever. I was really surprised to get the email from them. I was not happy at all and WILL MAKE IT KNOWN. Especially since they are a member here.

Sorry for the long post but I have been waiting for about 4-5 years to get started on my truck and now this.
Just had to vent.

At least I know SOME companies are still willing to be a company and sell to people.

I am pissed at the fact that once again we ( Canadians) get screwed cause people don't want to sell to us. I never said they were BSing me about the credit card fraud cause we all know it is everywhere, but to only sell to the US and not Canada is wat I think is just not right.
If you want to be in business then sell, if you refuse to sell then rethink your business.

It's bad enough that we have a hard time getting some stuff up here, I didn't think that a vendor from this great forum wouldn't sell to Canada.

Put yourself in my place and say the same thing.
