Anyone lower a 4wd k5 a couple inches?

Before you ask why....I have a 4wd and it's lifted 4 inches and it has issues with pinion angles. I'm planning on bringing it back down to stock and maybe like 2 inches lower than stock. If anyone has a pic of a slightly lowered k5....I'd like to see it.

I've never seen this done, but first thought is the stock front springs are already negative-arch, I'm not sure how you could lower it further without spending some coin. I guess you could flip the springs under the axles but you'll have to address steering.

If you want to buy some 2" lift springs or stock springs. I have absolutely no idea why you would try to go lower than stock as this will create new problems for you. Also pinion angles can be corrected in a number of ways, new drivelines, dropping the T-case a bit, changing out the blocks in the rear if you have them or adding shims in the rear etc.

I lowered to stock from 4" lift. I think if i went lower I'd lose all benefit of having 4wd and being able to off road (mildly).

I suppose with a 4" lift its springs, but if its a block and shackle lift stock is as close as new U-bolts in the back and shackles in front.
After that, I'd look for a Blazer or half ton in a scrapyard w/ stock springs. By now they probably sag a bit and are common. Lots of trucks between 73-87 and maybe to 91 if you include subs and blazers.

I'm seriously considering this myself. The cost of gas/33" tires/ U-joints....Going back to stock seems like a good idea.

Re: Anyone lower a 4wd k5 a couple inches?

As someone running the factory setup of the "Old Man Whitewall" tires, in the P235/75R15 size, it is a nice ride, no road noise and joy to drive. And I will say this, you don't see many of these trucks setup like this as you do the standard lift kit, wheels, tires, etc... going down the road.

Though I do like trucks that are setup and often have thought of doing this one, after a while the look grows on you.

Enjoy,

I'm only considering lowering mine back down, because I don't want another Pinion Bearing Failure, and if things work out I want to tow a car. Yes the truck looks great way up in the air, but the current "Rear End Overhaul" has about 150xxx on it and I'm thinking I will not be doing that much "Off Highway" traveling in the future. I still have the "Old Front Springs" and the "Original" Pitman Arm so that's not going to cost anything. I actually saw a lowered K5, with the stock 31" tires on it and It looked pretty nice, not to mention easy to get in and out of.....I wish I had gotten pictures, but we were only stopped at an intersection for a minute and I had no camera with me.
