my 64 long bed and rim/brake questions
Proud new owner of a 64 Loooong bed, really dig this truck so far. Have been reading up on this board ever since i picked her up.
I am looking at doing the Porterbuilt Stage 2 Deluxe front and rear, 20" Smoothies and prob disc brakes. Currently it has about 5" blocks in the rear and at least 1-1.5 coils cut up front.... I have been talking to Dave over at PB and there customer service has been top notch as I'm sure most of the questions i asked they have answered a million times. Looking forward to doing business with them. Anyway i am trying to plan this smart and keep the truck on the road most of the time, its currently my daily. Where should i start? If i do rims now, they might not fit correctly after the drop. But i need to get rims before i can do brakes in the front. I am tracking that Disc Brakes will not clear my "3 nub" OEM wheels. Any recommendations??? I have been on the hunt for a set of "4 nub" rims that will clear disc brakes, no luck yet and i don't really want 2 extra sets of rims around when i get 20's. Just seeing what others have done, i know i am not the first. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: my 64 long bed and rim/brake questions
Are you looking to stay 6 lug or switch to 5 lug? Either way, I would look for some cheap take offs at a junk yard from mid/late 70's era trucks (2wd for 5 lug, 4wd for 6 lug) and run those until you get you suspension done and can correctly measure for the real set of rims you want. Buying now could end up screwing you down the road as things may change enough to create clearance issues. You should be able to pick up some junk yard wheels for about $100 and can likely resell them for close to that when you are done with them.

Re: my 64 long bed and rim/brake questions
No advantages. Just different rim options. If you like 5 spoke style wheels, most are 5 lug. Anymore it's just a preference to what you want.
