AC install - complete system info and price range
Hey guys...
Been awhile since I've been on the forum. Hope everyone is well. Need some info and price range on anyone that has had a complete AC and heat system installed in a 66 Chevy I'd need everything condenser Sanden compressor - must be polished including brackets for a small block. parallel flow condenser drier ducts expansion valve evaporator and case hoses fittings freon installation and anything else needed. Possibly a complete system that comes in a kit. If so which seems to be the best, 'cleanest' looking? It'd be great to hear from anyone that has done this or priced one out. Again looking for prices including installation. Thanks!

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
I went with the Vintage air system. Went in real easy. I can make it whatever temp I want in the truck. It was like 1300.00 delivered.

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
I just did a complete Vintage Air system for my 61. The package was about $1300 with the polished compressor. It was about another $850 for a new set of March Brackets, as I converted from a V-Belt System to Serpentine belt. To have the a/c hoses custom fit to my truck and the system charged, it was $350. I am running the "peanut" compressor which fits in front of the block.
Be sure you tell them whether you need a front mount compressor (Peanut) or if a standard full size compressor will work. The full size compressor will have to mount over the top of the valve cover or completely off to the side of the engine. Of course, that is a California price. I'll see if I can dig up some pics... Tom

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
Here is the configuration with the short compressor, front mount and march brackets system...the first picture is before the a/c hoses were fit and the second was after the system was complete...

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
Sounds like I could get a system for about $2000 fully installed w/ polished compressor.
I also saw the complete kits for $1300 shipped. Thanks for all the input.

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
I think you could install the system yourself. The vintage air instructions are really good and if you have some tools, you can do it and save yourself some cash!
I asked the guy who charged my system how much for a full installation including the vintage air system and he quoted me $3,500 to $4,000 installed. I probably took about 20 to 30 hours to get my system fully installed and it actually was one of the more gratifying parts of the project. Bottom line, don't be afraid to take this project on yourself...it is doable! Good luck and thank you for the nice comment... Tom

Re: AC install - complete system info and price range
rcrahn...thank you! It's nice to hear from guys like you who appreciate these old trucks. That booster and bracket is one I got from my friend Captain Fab a couple of years back. He does such good work on those things!
My best to you... Tom
