51 Master Cylinder for 1 Ton

After spending several hours trying to rehone both the Master Cylinder and the Wheel Cylinders, I ordered the wheel cylinders new. However I am confused on the multiple versions of master cylinder. My old one has a 1 1/4" bore and one hole out. I am not sure how to measure the hole.

Any suggestions on which master cylinder to get new?

That one is pricey and there is no description as to why it costs so much.

Price is relative to supply and demand. Relatively low demand = higher price unless someone else enters the market to sell cheaper. Since most trucks are having the brakes up traded to dual MC systems no much demand for original stock. The manf decides how many to make, factors in cost of how long they will take to sell (future value of present investment) including costs for warehousing, etc. Check Rockauto, Centrics, etc. to see if there is a better deal.

Re: 51 Master Cylinder for 1 Ton

That place wanted $137 and RockAuto wants $69-$116. I really don't care what the price is. I just want to know about the item. What is it made of, what are the specs, that kind of thing.

There are at least 12 different listings for Master Cylinders for my truck. What I don't understand is how to order the replacement.

I apologize that I don't know about the dual MC's or how one would convert or why. Normally I just try to fix what is there.

I am grateful that someone is willing to answer my posts.

Re: 51 Master Cylinder for 1 Ton

Like everything that we buy today it is a Chinese master cylinder . China is a small town in southern California where everything is made(lol).

I have not heard of anyone using them as far as durability and quality.

To measure yours you will have to dis assemble like you were going to rebuild it and measure the bore size.

Re: 51 Master Cylinder for 1 Ton

I have 4 trucks I am working on. 1951 Chevy 3800 long bed, 1948 Chevy 3800 stake bed, 1953 Dodge Powerwagon, 1958 Chevy Viking.

I am also working on a Case 680G Backhoe and a Farmall M Tractor.

I do get confused from time to time.

Well this isn't even close to cheap http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...221_0487446246

If you have a real good friend that works at a NAPA store it might be a lot less though.
