Anyone ever seen a vinyl top truck?
In the literature thread I see a GM accessory package for vinyl tops on our trucks, though I've never seen one.
Has anyone?

Re: Anyone ever seen a vinyl top truck?
I saw one once. When I was growing up in Gainesville, Va. A neighbor 2 houses down had an orange 72 with a black vinyl top. Not many at all out there.

Re: Anyone ever seen a vinyl top truck?
The simulated style as linked is the only real way to do it. Though if you can knock the texture fine enough bedliner has promise.
We did an actual non-padded vinyl at the shop on a 72 that was a way underbid PITA. Basically all we did was mimic a 69 Camaro's halo style along the sides and carried it across the front. Problem is water intrusion, since there isn't a windshield molding. So we ran a formed trim section low across the front just above the drip rail. Sealed it using a LOT of silicone sealer under the trim (filled it actually) as we clipped it on to pop riveted clips. The trim was a universal aluminum sold for adding vinyl tops and matches the cab divider molding well. Customer was happy and he spent a lot even being underbid. Wish I still had the shop copy workorder but we did the vinyl roof, custom headliner and a sunroof on it.

Quote:
Unlike the simulated roof kits they used a conventional gloss paint without the tape simulated seams.

Re: Anyone ever seen a vinyl top truck?
I think the only trucks I have seen with the vinyl top have been red orange with black vinyl

Re: Anyone ever seen a vinyl top truck?
I had a 72, K1500 shortbed that had a padded vinyl top added. I painted it, but, I can't remember how they treated it at the drip rail. It was so ugly I didn't take pictures. I wonder what happened to it.
