Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
Finally got my truck painted.. Victory red 72 swb lowered 5/7.. It's is solid red and I want to put just the lower moulding on the truck as well as the tailgate band.. The truck is not going to be factory so that doesn't matter to me, I'm just going for looks.. In y'all's opinion, would a black or wood grain look better on a solid red truck..?

Given those choices, I'd probably use the black on a lowered red truck. However, if you really want a lower moulding and don't care about originality, have you considered the 67/68 moulding?

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
I'd have to agree with Jim here.
If you are thinking about using a tailgate band, the aftermarket black infill band and 69-72 black lower moldings should look really good. But the light 67-68 bodysides with either the early taillight eyebrow moldings and single tailgate molding or the later taillight surround with upper and lower tailgate moldings would look great! Add some white (or chrome) letters to finish it off.

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
Generally I prefer the woodgrained inserts. But red and the reproduction reddish woodgrain may not be as nice as you'd like. However it does work well on Firstowner69's maroon truck. There are a number of colors in my solid paint cheyenne cst thread. IIRC there are some red tucks that may help you decide.

Victory Red CST= Woodgrain
No brainer for me.... As an FYI I used all NOS woodgrain trim on mine. I noticed that most of the aftermarket woodgrain trim doesn't look like the GM pattern and color. |

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
Don't mean to hijack the thread but... was that style tailgate with the wood grain/black moulding and chrome "CHEVROLET" a 70+ model year design? I have that tailgate (with black) on my 68 and I've been curious. Thanks!

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
The woodgrained tailgate band was production installed on 69-72 CST Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super Fleetsides and CST Blazers.
If you have a tailgate band in black (behind the letters) it is probably an aftermarket replacement or reworked. The factory didn't use black bands in production.

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
I think it will look great either way.
I was going to go black on my truck and decided to go woodgrain after seeing a truck with them in person.

Re: Need opinions.. Wood grain or black moulding?
I think either would look great, but I would go with the wood grain on a red truck.
