Pro's/Con's 1 piece versus 2 piece driveshaft

Can someone please explain to me the difference and what the advantage is with the 2 piece? I will be bagging my build and I see several folks converting to a 2 piece DS. Is this a must for laying frame? Just want to make sure I don't order the wrong CM this week. Thanks

Re: Pro's/Con's 1 piece versus 2 piece driveshaft

From my research on the subject....

Pro: 1pc = cheaper & easier to set-up.
Con: 1pc requires floor and/or chassis (x-member) mods when getting uber low.

Pro: 2pc = less/no floor and/or chassis (x-member) mods.
Con: 2pc more difficult to set-up w/ZERO vibration when getting uber low & can cost 4x as much depending on what you start with.

Part of my research was actually talking w/Mr PB on the pro's & con's of each set-up. The hard FACT is extreme drops will require compromises to be made w/the driveline so it can work. That being said, I know of @ least 2 extremely low pro built trucks that had vibration issues using a 2pc set-up. They didn't have constant vibration; but it was there @ some point in the RPM scale.

I chose to minimize the expense, cut the floor a little, & go 1pc. Worst case scenario is if I have any vibration, I'll need to purchase a Double Cardan CV joint assembly but I'll still come out @ 1/2 the cost of the 2pc set-up's I received quotes for.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I lay frame and rocker(no pinch) with a 1pc on my 68 swb. No vibration or funky joint angles. Mine is body dropped around an 1.5" or so to lay rocker. Simply raise trans tunnel and cut back part of cab for clearance and your good to go. Also depending on how tall your tires are will determine how high your trans tunnel needs to be.
