Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Thanks but the color trapped under (and protected by) the hood hinges, does that appear to be original? See my truck has been repainted and I suspect, it's not the correct color. I say this because the bondo boy that did the repairs rather half-a**ed everything he did.
*Don't blame me, I was 14 at the time and didn't own the truck! |

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
I can't tell, but doesn't look like enough in good shape to use to match to.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Thanks guys. I have to say, what is under that hood hinge bracket is 10 TIMES BETTER than what's on the truck now.
When it comes time for a full repaint (next year?) could one of you send me a panel with original ochre paint on it that I could take to the paint guy? Just a sample? |

Wow, thanks! I had no idea there was such a website.
I have it "favorited" so maybe when it comes time to fix the body properly and paint it, it can get back to what it once was. |

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
You'll need to use the code when you have your local shop mix up the paint.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Yeah, Ochre is a color that does not age well. Sometimes it can look orange-ish yellow which has a nice/ cool 70's vibe and sometimes it can have a greenish tint which makes people remember that time when they changed a diaper on a sick child.

I do realize it's not the prettiest color and I wouldn't have chosen it but it was my dad's truck and such an unusual color, he was known for the color of his truck. So for that reason and that I grew up with the truck, it'll stay that color. |

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Actually, Ochre is known for holding up better than other color, possibly the best. The pigment is actually earth-born. Ochre is a clay, I believe. It is a natural pigment and I guarantee there are more original paint Ochre trucks out there than any other color, that can still look good. I think it's a beautiful color...and Joe posted proof as I was typing

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Is there any paint that holds up well in the Nevada sun after 43 years? I just had this discussion over the weekend with my painter/artist friend who explained what makes ochre such a durable color.
I no longer own it, but here is original ochre paint on the '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper, and ochre on the camper that was shot over turquoise when new. On a ferry in the Outer Banks of NC, Southern CO Sangre de Cristo range, New Mexico desert, and Edisto Island,SC. Any paint gone uncared for will oxidize. When ochre turns to baby poop yellow it will polish right back up to it's original brilliance. These pictures aren't 43 years old, just showing more example for 10 ring. But my experience, and what I've read here over the years, has been that ochre certainly is one of the better enduring colors. Certainly not one that doesn't hold up.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Good to know Special-K. Makes me sad to kick my black 05 Tundra out into the driveway for long while. I need the double garage for the rebuild. Heck, I may use all three. Other than that, all three of our vehicles are garaged.
Incidentally, that was a sweet set-up.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Thanks! It almost made out your way. It made it as far as Grand Canyon North Rim/Moab/Lake Powell.
The trucks from from the arid west are rare to see rust on, but buddy that sun will bake on the seam sealer on the top, paint, and interior, ay? That ochre will come right back with elbow grease. It sure can turn crappy looking when oxidized. Not even yellow.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
I am sure this is a trick of different camera's white-balance but some ochre pictures look like they have an orange-ish tint and I like those but at least half of the pictures I see show Ochre with a greenish tint which looks pretty bad to my eyes.
My truck was originally Ochre/ white 2 tone and I am struggling with whether or not to repaint it the factory colors or go with a Orange/ white or blue/ white instead. If I stay with Ochre I will also keep the original saddle interior color, if I go with the others I would probably change to black.

Re: Will the real ochre please stand up?
Thanks yet again guys for the original paint pics. I couldn't imagine my truck being any other color, as I grew up riding in that thing.
Now I am thinking about getting the yellow plaid seat cover put on when the seat goes in for reupholstering. The current seat is overfilled with padding and I sit way too high. |
