Axles
Hi all. My first post here. Great site and lots of helpful folks with good info.
So, hoping somebody here can help with an issue I have with axles for a 68. I recently got 71 axles so I can convert to 5 bolt, but noticed that the axle shafts are longer than the 68 ones. Can they be used? or do i need to get another set? Additionally I will be changing our the brakes to disks with an adapter plate. Thanks |

As you can see they are longer starting somewhere from the end of 70 on up. you could get the 6 lug axles drilled for 5 lug. might be cheaper than finding new axles..

Thanks HamJet. Looking for a solution now. I see them list in places on line for "C10's" but no mention of the length. I surely dont want to buy another set.

Several companies make 5 lug axles to fit your housing about any vendor selling parts for our trucks can have them. Welcome to the site. Jim

Thanks Jim. Looks like I might just get CPP axles and be done with it.

Those appear to be used axles?
If you can get the 71-72 housing they came out of, the 71-72 housing will bolt right in to your truck.

An option is to contact Captainfab, He makes disc brake kits he may have the spacer to use those axle shafts with the shorter housing. not sure but you could ask him. he may have a kit for 5 lug and disc brakes. Because I think with a longer axle shaft meant less back space for the caliper mount...all he can say is no. Just a thought.
