Upper Door Seal Installation
Bought a Precision set of weatherstrip/seals for my 81 Silverado to replace the door-to-cab seals and the upper door seals.
Precision has a tutorial video on how to do the door-to-cab seal (HERE). I have it installed. Goofed a little on cutting one a bit short. Question: Does Precision have a tut-vid, like the one above, for installing Upper Door Seals? I'm guessing shrinkage will be an issue as with the door-to-cab seals. When gluing in do you start from one side to the other, the center out, etc.? What's the instruction? Thanks. IM |

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
I could not find a video for that specific weatherstrip install. But I did find this video that will help as far as using the adhesive.

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
Just wanted to add my 2c.
The upper door seals were only on the 73-82 as far as I'm aware. The earlier ones 73-77 did not have the molded ends and simply glued on, so shrinkage should not be an issue. 78-82's. 14016512 - RH 14016511 - LH These seals were different since they have molded ends, they glue on also so shrinkage, again should not be an issue. Hope that helps. Derek

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
Following, I am interested if they make any difference. I have rebuilt and replaced the vent window seals (used Precision). That took care of most of the noise, but still have some.

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
I will post the difference it makes, when I get mine done. I have gotten all new seals for the doors & vent windows. I have a lot of wind noise that I have been working on for awhile now. I did adjust the doors, which did help. As soon as I get the time to replace all the seals & restore the vent windows, I will update. So far the only seal I have replaced, is the door opening on the cab.
As for the little top door seal. Will it make a difference? For the little money that these things cost, why not try. |

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
No I have never done one yet. I've been watching lots of how to videos. I already have a rivet tool.

Guys - you can evaluate your truck for problem spots with duct tape. Just tape over specific areas (around the the vent window, or around the roll down window, or even between the door "A" pillar and body "A" pillar post) and drive the truck around to see what kind of difference it will make. With the fully taped package you will know the "ultimate" wind noise level you are trying to attain, and then removing specific areas will highlight the relative contribution of that spot. Beats guessing.... K

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
I got the left door under control. I know I'm getting wind noise from the vent on the right side. I can visually see a small gap between the seal and the door. Over time, I have been getting all the parts & seals to do a full restoration on the vent windows and replacing all the weatherstripping while I have the doors completely torn apart. It will must likely be a winter time project while the truck is stored in the garage for the season.

Re: Upper Door Seal Installation
The door-to-cab seals look really good (I goofed on the d-side and have a 1/2" gap, hope I don't get wind noise), but I am debating whether or not I can even put on the upper door seals. The new ones just aren't fitting.
