Help: power steering pump with vintage air
Trying to get this truck ready to leave for the power tour Wednesday.
I've been slowly installing Vintage air in the truck for the past week. It is a 1972 with a crate 350 (vortec center bolt heads). I installed relocation brackets to move the alternator to the driver's side. During the install, I noticed that my power steering pump didn't line up with any of the pullies, it was in between the inside and mid pulley slot (had been this way since I got the truck 8 years ago or so). I need it to move in 1/4-1/2 inch so that I can run it on it's own pulley. I don't see any way to move this particular pump inboard toward the engine. I've heard of offset pulleys, but have yet to find as source for anything but a stock pulley. Honestly, I have no idea what this PS pump came off of. the only thing that I was able to do for now was to space it out 1/4 inch to line it up with the alternator on the center V groove. My questions are as follows: 1. will this even work running the alt and ps pump on one belt? 2. is there a known ps pump and bracket that I can get that will line up with the inside v groove on the crank so that I can run the PS pump on its own belt? 3. is there a source that someone knows about for a pulley that i can swap to move the PS pulley farther in? Normally with a long water pump you need to run a two groove power steering pump pulley. The grove on the crank pulley closest to the timing cover will run on the power steering inner groove. Then the alternator belt will ride in the outer groove on the power steering pulley then around crank and water pump. Running both on one belt will probably not allow enough wrap on the power steering pump. Hope this helps.

I have seen PS pumps with way more belt contact squeal like a banshee, I would comb the junk yards for another option for mounting that pump or maybe for parts to move other accessories around.

You have a ps set up intended for swp, but a lwp. Swap it for a lwp ps pump.

Thanks guys. I found a two pulley PS pump with bracket at the shop next door last night and figure it will work. Ordered a new pump for the bracket today.
Today was spent building and powder coating custom upper brackets for the griffin aluminum/fans combo. Finally seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel. Looks like we may make the power tour after all. We plan to hit it in Birmingham. Stop by and say "Hi" if you see us on the tour. Untitled by efi-street, on Flickr
