Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

I picked up my new 2015 Corvette Z06 A8 Convertible yesterday. I went over the top for visuals, no point in being subtle. As you likely know, 650hp and 650ftlbs.

When you consider the SAE NET on the 1970 LS-6 was something like 310hp, it's like having two LS6s in a little plastic car. Crazy.

The red seats were a real stretch for me, but you can only have so many black interiors.

That is VERY nice. The C7s are the only Vettes newer than '72 that I'd like to have and I'd like to have an LT4 maybe a little too much.

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

In the nicest possible way, you lucky bastard!!!! We in the Antipodes can only dream about buying such a car. Our crazy Government(s) insists on ONLY right hand drive cars being available for sale if built after 1988. I have pleaded with several Corvette people, Harland Charles, Dave McLellan, Jim Campbell, etc. to build a RHD Corvette for we who live in countries where we drive on the left side of the road, but to no avail.

I only hope I live long enough to see common sense prevail when those people in Detroit pull their heads out of their arses and realise that every other car manufacturer in the world builds cars with the steering wheel on the right. Even Ford is starting to build RHD Mustangs for export to Australia later this year. Chrysler Australia has been selling RHD Jeeps, PT Cruisers, 300s, etc. for decades now, and we can even get the Hemi in a 300 if we want.

Apart from the LS powered Holden Commodores, that will cease production in 2017, there is no V8 GM product on the horizon for us. You guys are lucky, enjoy!!!

Regards from Down Under.

Kalahari would have looked better, but still a nice car. I just can't get past the droptop on a car that capable. I'll stick with my Z06/Z07 M7 Coupe! Did you make the reservation for the drivingschool at Spring Mountain yet? GM pays 75% of the cost for new Z06 owners. You pay $1000.00 and they pony up the other $2950 for the Ron Fellows Racing School. It's a real kick so don't miss it!

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

Love that car and the color combo. We all have our preferences, and of course all Corvettes are beautiful, but I have to disagree with Fitz on both counts. The red seats really compliment the car, and I wouldn't think of buying a Corvette that I couldn't lower the top. My first Vette was a 64 Stingray convertible. My son has had six Vettes since then and I always told him I would dis-own him if he bought a Vette with a fixed top. He has taken my advice so far, LOL, as he loves that top-down driving as much as I do.

They are great for just cruisin' on a sunday morning or just showin' off at the local dairy queen on friday nights but they aren't much good if you want to USE the capabilities of the car. Try that drop top at 130mph! It will begin to lift and at 150....well dude you are probably going to have an experience that will make wish you didn't have one.
Here's a PDR shot of a run I made early this AM.

But even so... Kalahari? That's a girl's color. I know, because that's what my wife has. I would also deem Kalahari in a Velocity Yellow car an "acquired taste", but I wouldn't do it in your "I just bought a car I love" thread.

Yeah, I hear a lot of that from coupe owners. Just remember every second you're on the street, which is no doubt 98% of time, I have a convertible and you don't. I just can't get past people driving a car this capable on the street at all.

Why do you have a PDR shot of a run on a straight track? Exactly which capabilities of the car are you impressing yourself with? Is that even on a real track?

Please do. And jumping into a thread where someone has saved up $100K, bought their dream car, and telling them you don't like it is harsh even for "random internet idiots".

For other Kalahari onwers, I'm only kidding about the girl-part, just said it because my wife does have it.

Posting a photo montage of your own car in my thread was just the icing on the cake.

Anyway, I'm unsub'ing from the thread because I don't particularly feel like having my pride and joy insulted by anyone, let alone that guy.

Too bad it'd be so heavy, but a retractable hardtop ala the new M3 would be sweet...

In reality though these cars depreciate so fast there's no reason not to have both. You can pick up a C6Z06 for about $30K and there's no one here that can drive it near its limits. You just need more garage space :-)

I considered keeping both, but have an M3 for the track. Still miss it a little though!

Wow. Still crouching in your basement posting about cars on boards where you can get an audience. Your pride and joy? Guess you did not know that IMSA, FAI, NASA ans SCCA all require that all parts of a convertible top be completely removed for any roadster to pass tech inspection due to the separation hazard of those tops at speed. They are, after all, the governing bodies for safety regulations every track IN THE WORLD. Guess , in your mind their opinions of safety requirements pale in the light of your vast knowledge. Further, your complete lack of tolerance for an alternate point of view is absolutely STAGGERING. I did say I would not choose that color scheme but it was still a pretty nice car. I meant that then and I still mean that but I am not going down on bended knee to beg forgiveness for dissing 'your pride and joy'. To me it's just a posers car, good for the Dairy Queen and the local cars and coffee but not much else. The PDR clip was intended to show that I can and do regularly drive beyond the safety limits of a drop top vette. As to color schemes, Kalahari and red are a pretty combo. Bye Bye!

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

Keep editing your reply, you'll get me eventually :-) I see you took out the admission about regularly driving so fast on public roads that a convertible wouldn't be safe... were you worried your insurance company would find this thread or did you change your opinion on the matter in question in between?

Posting a picture of yourself doing 132 on a non-divided highway was my first clue we could never be friends. Sorry Fritz. Let's leave it there and not annoy the other children.

Anyhow, I meant pride and joy figuratively. They're just cars as you alluded to, though I do think my car and its colors kick ass. Figuratively.

It's still a posers car. I guess you missed the fact that I live in the middle of the Sonoral Desert. We have an average of 45 days above 110 each year between May and October and another 60 with temps above 100. You would just love driving a droptop here! Shake and Bake Dave. So you are wrong on several counts. I did not want a vert, I wanted a coupe. This is Corvette number 13 for me, so it's not my "dream car" that I finally got after waiting a long time for it's just a consumable. We will never be friends; poisonous frendships with snarky, arrogant, condescending people aren't anything I pursue. My insurance company could care less how I drive as long as I pay on time and two lane roads through the mountains in the desert at 5 AM don't have enough traffic worth mentioning. The local constabulary isn't up at that hour.
Anyway I thought you were unsubcribing; that is to say taking your ball and going home in a pout? Bye!

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

Fitz, why don't you just shut up? That red convertible looks ten times better than your plain white coupe with that tan seat color that most every jap compact car comes with. He bought the car to enjoy, not to try to kill himself by driving like an idiot on unsafe roads. I believe that there was an actor named James Dean who thought like you and you see what happened to him.

Wow this got out of hand I think it's time to go back to your respective corners and realize that if we all liked vanilla ice cream the world would be boring. I can't believe this thread got this far out of context you sound like children. By the way both cars are great in their own way I prefer hard tops in black only.

Actually I thought I was pretty clever and entertaining. Beats being rude, which accomplishes very little. I may have drifted that direction though I suppose.

Just to aggravate the "real" drivers, this is my other track-capable car... They pose next to each other in my garage :-) I actually would have traded this and kept the C6Z coupe for the track, but you can't give these away, they're worth like $15K on trade. I'd rather keep it if I can afford to at that price.

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

A thread with pictures of two LT4 powered Vettes.....I hate see sparks against such a perfect topic. Whether it’s a red rag or a yeller coupe I'd enjoy rubbing some wax (or burning rubber) on either one.

Please don't hate me but if I ordered one it'd be a coin toss as to black or Laguna blue.

I really wanted one but when I sat in it my head touches the roof no matter how low I put the seat. Some times being 6'4" is no fun.

Re: Got my new Z06 Convertible yesterday

It's amusing how snippy some people can get over details that are so far past the mundane that most people won't brush up against them except in magazines and car shows.

I drove a "rolls-can-hardly" Toyota for years so I could afford a "middle age crazy" car. It's sleek, well featured and fast, faster than I'll ever drive it in fact, but you guys could disable a cylinder, block off a gear and still leave it in the dust.

The Z06 Corvette has entered the super car arena. Compared to its competition, it's a bargain but compared to the budgets most of us have; it's a dream. I would love to have a Z06, an RS5 or an M4 but for me that means years old and miles many (except that last one where it means wrecked since they are new!)

Maybe y'all should be a bit more content in having the economic advantage where you can argue over petty style details of $130,000 toys. I like both your cars.
