...OK, but how do you ID an EARLY dana 44?
Hey everybody. I spent some time today scraping 55 years worth of crud off the front axle of my '60 GMC K1500 in an attempt do gather some part numbers and data about it.
What I've been finding is that if I had a '67 or later axle I'd be able to load my BOM number into Dana's database and get a detailed listing of every part that went into it. With a 1960 axle... not so much. Anybody know of any good resources for getting data about early Dana 44 front axles? What I have for axle tube numbers are: D103A5 where the date code should be and 21832X where the BOM number would be. It's all mashed together into one long string of digits: "D103A521832X". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

When I was switching gears in my Dana 44 rear axle, I just did a Google search on Dana 44 and a bunch of websites will pop up each having a variety of useful information available.

Aerotruk63: Thanks! That's a good start. Beyond just being curious about provenance, I like to be able to provide as much data as possible to suppliers when I'm looking for parts.
Markeb01: I spent a couple hours googling before posting (including threads on this site). You're right... there's a lot of data out there for the Dana 44... and it's probably enough that I can get any parts I might need. My challenge was that it seemed like getting details for an individual axle made prior to the late 60's / early 70's wasn't happening. (mine happens to be a 1960). |

why do you need new axles? everything is avl for the 44. napa lists bearings/u-joints. ring and pinions are avl. rockauto is also great on prices. Quad 4x4 also has parts for the dana 44-5f and the HD 3/4t axle. have fun-----
