Max Rear Wheel 'Width' - '63 Stepside
Anyone know the max rear wheel width and tire size for a '63 Chevy stepside with a stock 12 bolt rearend without having to tub it?
What offset and backspacing, also? Thanks |

Re: Max Rear Wheel 'Width' - '63 Stepside
I'm pretty sure I have the widest rear setup on the forum for a standard frame (though its possible a member with a 17" wheel could go about 2/3" wider if they could find a rim that existed that size). I have a 12" wide beadlock and 325/50/15 Drag Radials on my '66 with a 71 12-bolt. While my truck is tubbed (too much actually lol), its not on a narrowed frame or anything. My tub only needs to be about 2.5" but is over twice that.
It requires custom built wheels, with over an 8.5" backspace. Most companies don't do over 6-7" BS, so you're stuck having them built, or finding something like a WELD drag wheel.

That is the biggest tire/wheel combo I can fit on my 62 stepside.. My rear end is a donor from a 64 C10 which if I'm not mistaken is the same dimensions as yours. When said and done the tire has 3/8" between the untrimmed fender edge and 5/8" to the bedside...I have no rubbing issues and I'm able to tuck the tires up in the fender. In my case that's about as much as I'm going to get with out tubs...........Good luck, Joe |
