Door seals cause door problems.
I put all new weather stripping on my 78 crew cab last summer.
New door seals on all four doors. Back doors open and close fine. Front doors bind on hinge side seal and are a pain to close/slam. I have moved the hinge side of door out as far as I can and pulled the door strike/post out as far as I can and I still have to slam the door to get it to latch. I ended up cutting the squishy part of the seal off along the hinge side. Doors close way better now, but I am not happy I did it. Anyone else ever delt with this and what can I do to correct it? |

I have this problem too, how hot do you get them with the hair dryer? Get them hot and shut the door for a while?

Re: Door seals cause door problems.
When I did my resto I used oem gm seals . The doors shut ok but I have to lean on it when I go to close it . If I just push it shut with light pressure it will not close all the way . As time goes on I guess the seal had compressed some and is closing easier . It makes for a good seal .
I guess I have gotten used to the modern day doors where they close easy with out much effort on my 06. Also , dont forget about the door strike bushing . If it breaks and falls out it makes thinks worse . |
