Task Force Front Fender Rubber Install
Fenders, hood and grill pieces are painted and ready to assemble the doghouse. Bought a front fender rubber set but not sure where all pieces go...
Kit has 8 pieces (4 for each fender). Two pieces for each fender are obvious where they go, as they are flat rubber and punched holes line up with fender to inner fender surfaces. The other two pieces have me guessing. One is a channel piece with a slot like it is supposed to slip over an edge. The other more like a door rubber, except no mounting pins. Drawings in my assembly manual and LMC catalog seem a bit vague on these two pieces. Got the truck as an abandoned project so no clues in disassembly. Any tips or photos greatly appreciated!!! |

Re: Task Force Front Fender Rubber Install
I think the ones that have the channels go on the inner fenders where they meet the firewall

Re: Task Force Front Fender Rubber Install
In the FAM it shows as a bead of caulk between the fender and grille surround and back of fender vertical at the cab. I went through the FAM and marked all the caulk notes. There is also a section dedicated just to caulking. It was used to prevent squeaking, water and dust intrusion and keep wind and fumes at bay. I am using flexible strip sealant used in building.

Re: Task Force Front Fender Rubber Install
lmc catalog shows the locations http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=27
the rear fender seals glue in the fenders use a lot of tape to hold the inner fender to cab seal on, then spot glue after installing everything the other 4 pieces can be glued on or double sided tape to assist in the installation

Re: Task Force Front Fender Rubber Install
Thanks for your thoughts guys. I'll use pieces of each of them.
My problem was clarity of drawings (but I'm pretty thick headed) and inside of fenders showed no sign of ever having any adhesive. However... While doing body work, found truck had gone from Cardinal Red to Forest Green, then to some 70's silver. Each build was progressively nastier- no wonder evidence would be removed. Bought the truck in buckets, so no other clues. Again, thanks for the info- and the truck panels now look great in Seafoam Green! Frenched off hood and fender chome and trim is satin black. Will post a photo once assembled. |
