AD Suburban 4 Door
I have a dream of finding an AD Suburban for my next project. I am not in love with the 2 door setup, specifically for access to the backseats. I have not seen one converted to a 4 door. Has anyone seen this done? It seems like a no-brainer as far as functionality.

It might seem like a no brainer until you see what the undertaking would be. That coupled with the difficulty in locating a suburban that they don't want a bunch of $$ for. If you do find one then you are risking ruining the rare suburban cutting it up for more doors. Those are just a few of my reasons why you don't see more people attempting this. Marc

Re: AD Suburban 4 Door
On my wish list of projects. I don't know if I'd have the skill to pull it off, but thought a panel truck would be a better starting point and use the doors & jambs from a truck cab. Not sure what to do about rear side windows though. Perhaps cut up yet another set of doors for the window frames and graft them in??

Re: AD Suburban 4 Door
I think suicide doors with no jamb like newer quad cabs would be killer. Might even be able to use the newer door locking hardware?? Seem like getting the second window configuration "just right" is the challange. A lot of truck quad cab conversion look good, others really awkward. Photoshop would answer a lot of the questions about window configurations. Beeeps ambulance thread might offed some hints too.

Have never seen a 4 door AD suburban. Would be possible of course with extensive fabrication. Wow, it is pretty extensive just building one without extra doors. That TF four door looks really good Ogre. Any ideas if they documented the build anywhere? |

Re: AD Suburban 4 Door
the 4 door work on the blue TF is is gorgeous but is the "curb" (floor to bottom edge of door) in a TF that big in every truck/suburban? looks like he channeled it, a lot, and the back seats wouldnt be very comfy.

Re: AD Suburban 4 Door
That is a cool burb. Wish there was more photos of the rear doors being made.

Re: AD Suburban 4 Door
Not exactly a burb, but atleast an idea of a nicely done 4 door conversion. Most of the 4 doors i have seen in an AD have been COE's, very few burb's (excluding woodies).
It would be tough to pull off on a AD burb and make it look right. First thought would be to make the door opening where the center windows are (like the TF burb that was shown), but w/the rear fender being more forward/larger into this space it would you would have bigger notch in the door and the lines wouldn't be as smooth of a transition like the TF burb IMO. Not as smooth of a transition on the doors between the one above and this one. I think the builder on the first one nailed it perfectly.
