flowmaster exhaust too loud

Looking for suggestions.
290 HP 350 motor.
Headers and 3" dual exhaust with cats and flowmaster super 10 mufflers.
Wouldn't have been my choice but, the exhaust is new stainless and was put on by the previous owner.
It sounds good but it's a little too loud considering it's not a drag racer.

I was thinking of putting on flowmaster delta 40s.
Supposed to be the quietest of the "aggressive" sounding street mufflers.
Except the 50s which I believe are for diesels.
Anybody use these before?
Too loud for a weekend driver?

I have a 50 series big block on my 98 [dual 2 1/4 in, single 3" out immediatly dumped under the bed], its really mellow compared to the dual 2.5" regular 40's I have on my 78. No flowmaster mufflers are made specific for diesels or gas engines that I've ever seen.

50 series hd will be much mellower.

also, look into dynomax ultraflows, hooker aerochambers, hooker maxflows.

i have a single 3" ultraflow on my pickup. headers, no cat, and 2.5" pipes to a flowmaster merge, 3" out the back. its nice and deep, quiet on idle and cruise, but it barks when you stand on it. when i bought the pickup it had a 10 series and it was just too obnoxious for me, too loud in the cab under normal highway cruise.

I have headers, 2 1/2" pipes and dual stainless magflow (not mag na flow) on mine and really like the way it sounds.not to loud but just right.

I have Flowmaster 40s,manifolds with an H pipe,out before the rear wheels.
Some say it's loud but it grows on ya,then one day you don't notice it as much....
Some say the crossover makes a difference....

I have 2 flowmaster 40s with x pipe and I thought they were loud at first especially when you get the 3000s rpms. But then again I have just the mufflers right now under the bed. I imagine after I finish welding the exhaust over the axle it will quiet down a bit. I also don't have any insulation yet so for

Remember there are cats here, that will quiet it down a bit. Cats and 10 series I'll bet is similar to regular 40's with no cats.

Also, the delta flow version seems a little more mellow to me than a regular 40.

I personally LOVE the sound and volume of Hooker Aerochambers, never run them with cats though... should be really mild at idle and low throttle.

That's what I mean, most folks that have 40's probably don't have cats. So it would be a bit louder than 40's on the OP's truck.

I also have Flowmaster 40's, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, H-pipe with no cats. I flat out hated how loud it was when the muffler shop finished. I drove it back to them after about 15 minutes and had them install resonators. It gave the exhaust a completely new sound. With them in place, it still had a deep rumble and would get "loud enough" when you goosed it. The highway drone instantly became bearable. I recommend you try them. See if your muffler shop could run some temp flex piping to let you check it out before you buy. The worst they can do is say no.

I think I'd switch to delta 50s after doing some reading but, they don't come in stainless with 3" centered inlet/outlets.
Maybe resonators are the way to go?
Are they anything more than a glasspack muffler?
Should they be installed pre or post muffler?

The 3 inch exhaust is overkill for a 290 hp SBC and will make it louder.

Get some 50 series delta's in the largest case size.

I know about the 3" being overkill. It's a brand new system though and I can't afford to replace it.
What's the thoughts on mixing the aluminized steel mufflers with a stainless pipe.
I plan on welding these in myself so, replacing these with a center inlet/outlet won't require any further mods.

I got rid of the 3" tailpipes which also helped to quiet it down.. My resonators are right before the muffler.
