67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
This is my first truck rebuild and I cant seem to get out of the garage lol. Ive rebuilt a 69 ss chevelle and a 68 camaro in my day but never a truck. My brother came home a few weeks back and he had bought a 67 short step bed truck and I fell in love lol. So I had just cleaned out my garage and had to toys or projects so I told my wife It was time. I started looking for a truck and ran across this little beauty. I know its just a shell but I like starting from the ground up anyway so It was just what I wanted. Clean tennessee title and all so $800 later It was sitting in my driveway.

Re: 67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
First things first, the truck was etched primered when I purchased it and had new rockers in it already. Im not satisfied with how they look from underneath so I think I am going to take them back out (later in the build) and redo it all. after close inspection I noticed the floor had some pitting and small holed along the edges and up along the dimmer switch area on the drivers side. I dont like patching If I can replace at a reasonable cost so Ive decided to replace the firewall which takes care of the dimmer switch area. I dont have all the firewall completely out yet but I couldnt stand It any longer and had to post a few pics.

That intermediate shaft, is it what it appears to be? Square tube welded to the steering gear? Not nitpicking I just have never noticed a 67 torn down that far and my oldest ones are 68's. You have got a great grasp on the rust issues. Jim

I suppose to a degree. Once I have the cab welded up I'll sit it off the frame and turn it over so I can grind down and fiberglass the patches from underneath then I'll blast everything again and primer the entire cab, also while the cab is off I'm sending the frame to the local shop that does dustless blasting and have them blast off the frame. I'm gonna take all the smaller parts off the frame and powdercoat them myself, I've been powder coating for several years now but the frame is to big for me to do.

Sorry for the rant, at this stage I'm not sure how original I'm gonna keep it. I like things that go fast so I have a 383 stroker engine that I'm wanting to put in it. 510hp pump gas 😁😍 my wife wants some kind of custom upholstery but I just want an old style bench seat. The only problem is I want hounds tooth and I don't think it was offered in 67. But we will see as the build goes along. I'll post some more post op pictures in the morning.

Re: 67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
Ok, so here is some more pics. I finished taking out the firewall and also the drivers side rocker (it would have to have been removed anyway to replace the floor) and I am glad I did. I noticed some more rot inside around the pillar which I will replace when time. Im done removing the old until I can replace the firewall, I want to make sure to keep the integrity of the cab not have it shift out of line and I need it in place to measure for my new floor to go in. Hopefully I will order my new parts this week.

Re: 67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
OK, i need some help. Ive been on the phone all day talikng to triplus, tabco, and surplus supply trying to decide who to buy my floor pans, rockers, outer floor sections, etc. off of. I was told that no matter who you buy the firewall off of its made by triplus as they are the only ones with the tooling for it. some of you gurus who have been down this road tell me who to buy off of. Oh and thanks for the reply on the powdercoating cooperhw

Re: 67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
OK guys and gals here is a few updates. Ive been kinda waiting on my parts to come in and they are here. the first Pic here is my new firewall just sitting in place (not welded in) I needed it in place to measure for my floor pans on teh drivers side. Also here is a before and after shot of my drivers side A Piller, the new one is just mocked up for pic purpose and hopefully will be welded in by tomorrow evening. once the A Piller is welded in I can then start on my floor and cross brace that bolts to the A Piller. The new brace does not have holes drilled which I like because I will drill them to match the new A
Piller when its installed. The new floor panel is also a one piece floor pan and inner rocker so It will also be drilled and bolted to the A Piller when its installed. |

Re: 67 c10 short bed frame up resto!
And to let everyone know the firewall came from GMCPAULS and It fits perfectly, Their customer support is Awesome. I sent them a message on sunday about the demensions not expecting to here from them till monday and within an hour Paul JR sent me an email back stating that he had went out and measured the piece and gave me the demensions of it. I ordered the firewall and outer rockers on tuesday-wednesday and they were delivered on friday. The outer rockers also look great and looks like they are going to just slide into place. now everything else, ( A Pillers, floor pans, outer rear floor that meets the floor pans, front cab supports, and footwells) came from TABCO, they make these parts in house in columbus ohio, now word of caution, not all parts they sell are made from them so make sure you check with them before ordering their parts. I ordered from them the same day as I did GMCPAULS and they came in on saturday.
