That shouldn't be difficult to accomplish.

As far as rebuilt units I have had good luck with
Detroit Axle's rack and pinions in the past with the two that I have bought from them.

One of those is on m 2000 Cadillac DTS with electronic assisted steering and it works great and doesn't leak so that says something for their work.

I can check locally as can others but I have no idea of if I could save you any money.

I'd suggest that you try this guy-

http://www.everydayxj.com/

His name is David Bognar (hope I spelled it right). He makes a market in used Jag parts, focusing on the xj6.

He should have a good, serviceable LHD rack in stock that you wouldn't have to rebuild. He's well equipped to ship parts too - you'll have to ask him about NZ though.

Best way to reach him is via email on his website. He's always returned my emails within a day or so. He's a 'man and a dog' operation and very pleasant to deal with.

Barring everydayxj, I have an acquaintance here that has a Jag parts collection bordering on obsession and he'd have a XJ6 or XJS rack. LMK if David doesn't work out and I'll put you in touch with him.

Re: jag xj6 front end

Just a couple of other thoughts- (apologies if you knew this already)

The XJ6/XJS tie rod end came in both metric and SAE threads. Before you order new tie rod ends check to see what you've got

The XJ6/XJS racks have notoriously poor mount bushings from the factory. By the time they're a few years old or up there in mileage, the rack is wallowing around in the sub-frame and that precision Jag suspension has gone to hell. There's a few places around that sell urethane bushing kits that work well, but I've cut them out of low-durometer skate board wheels and it worked fine (sounds a little ghetto, but it works!)
