BBC in a 68 swb
Hey guys it's been a few years since I have been on here and I am finally getting back to working on these trucks. My question is what issues am I going to run into putting a 454 with a turbo 400 transmission into a 68 swb step side that originally had a v8 with a sm465. I had the 454 in a 70 4x4 so I have the motor mounts and headers from that truck I'm just not sure if it will all bolt into a 2wd or not. I know the drive shaft will need to be built but other then that will it just go in?
I'm so glad to finally be back to toss great board! I appreciate any feedback

Shouldn't be any problem. I had a 454/TH400 in my '67 2WD short fleet and the front sheet metal and frame would be the same. LockDoc

Re: BBC in a 68 swb
Thanks for the reply LockDoc. Here are a few pics of the 68. I have a set of doors and fenders with the matching hood off my 70 that have all the body work done and are in epoxy primer. I also have a rust free 68 cab that could go on but a was really liking the color the truck is now but the body is rough.

Re: BBC in a 68 swb
I've never owned a 4x4 but I believe the motor is set back further, and of course is always a small block. I wouldn't assume that it'll work that way.
If it's a normal 2WD SWB I would highly recommend you get the factory mounts, both frame and engine. 1970s are very expensive so there might be a different year that's reproduced cheaply. Furthermore, setting a bigblock back with 4x4 mounts, if it even worked, would likely not clear the firewall and the trans tunnel would be questionable too I think.

Re: BBC in a 68 swb
This is my current mount if I remember right it was built by ord. Would it be at all possible to just put it in the front set of frame holes where the stock mounts are? The transmission cross member will have to be moved because in switching it to an auto. If it makes a difference I'm running a set of electric fans so if it will sit forward with no firewall mods that's even better.
Thanks for the responses
