Ford 9"
I have a friend that has a Ford 9". He says something about 'the one with the big bearing' - I'm not sure what that means.
Anyway, he wants $350. I'm not sure if it's a good deal or not. I'm kinda interested myself, but I really don't need it. I figured I'd post it here just in case someone was interested. . Also, feel free to post what you know about Ford 9" rearends and/or if he is way off on his asking price. . Thanks

Re: Ford 9"
Does it have any brackets welded on to it?
Does it have a third member and axles installed? Large and small bearings has to do with the hole in the end of the axle housing. Early axles used the large caged ball bearing setup. Later they went to a tapered roller bearing which is smaller in diameter. The only connection between spline count is early axles tended to be 28 spline. The 31's came along later to handle higher hp.

Re: Ford 9"
At this time, I don't know a lot about it.
I'm guessing it's complete. I can ask him more about it tomorrow.

Re: Ford 9"
Maybe that's what he meant when he said it had the big bearing.

Re: Ford 9"
The width of the rear end will be a huge factor in whether someone can use it in their application.

Re: Ford 9"
He still hasn't measured it for me.
I told him to measure from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.
