serprntine system

I have a serpentine system off a 90 truck. I am ready to install it but have a question. The new alternators wiring is slightly different. It still has the heavy cable that bolts to the back of the alternator, but the plug connector has only 1 small guage wire. Any suggestions? Wiring diagrams?

after workin on a car with serpentine i am glad i diecided not to do a serpentine setup. pain in the butt

it's a trend. it's expensive for not htat much in hp gain
i personally don't like working on serpentine systems.

serpentine systems are easier to deal with the belts last longer and dont slip. vbelts come want to come apart and slip terribly at higher rpm whereas as a serp belt system doesnt. a serp belt requires no tightening because it has a tensioner the belt usually needs replaced every 60 thousand miles and thats it. i think you can just use your alternator in the bracket just swap the pulleys over. im almost positive both have the 12 oclock 6 oclock bolt pattern meaning the mounting holes are directly across from one another

I have everything that came with the serp system, alternator, ps pump, and water pump. Should I do the swap or not. It won't cost a penny except for a water pump gasket.

The diffrence in the alternator is it is a one wire hookup, look in the faq board for a wiring diagram to hook it up.

I got most of the swap done in about two hours. Unbolt and bolt back on. Very simple. One problem I ran into is the old water pump had a fitting on it for a heater hose. The new pump does not. Where can I hook up the second heater hose? I can't leave it disconected for too long 'cause it is starting to get cool gere at night. A couple of more weeks and I will need the heat.

Since the water pump was changed, does the fan need to be changed as well?

If you are wanting to pick up horse power through your pulleys why not go with under drive pulleys. I would recommend a 30%.

I am not after the power. The reason I did this was that my ps pump died on me and I had the whole system (Alt, brackets, pullys, ps pump, water pump, belt, etc.) off a new truck sitting in the garage. It was a lot cheaper than buying a new pump.

Most late model systems that utilize the serpentine set-up have the second heater hose fitting in the radiator.

serpentine systems wouldnt be that bad as long as you are running electric fans.

Serp. systems are put on by the mfg's. for one reason and one reason only..to save manufacturing $$. We are stuck with 'em now. Besides the newer designs would be a PITA to access the belts separately anyway.
