Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

Here's another customer build I am working on. Everything on this truck is supposed to be top of the line per customer requests. I didn't go crazy over board with that idea, but I did do a lot of nice parts on it. Hoping to get this one to SEMA this year!
Here's a photo from the day he bought it.

Here it is outside my shop a few weeks ago.

And here's what we are going for

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

Ordered in a few parts:
22"x8.5" front and 22"x12" rear Intro Gallop wheels

Some custom powder coated Baer brake. These are 14" drilled and slotted rotors and 6 piston calipers front and rear.

A full Porterbuilt suspension setup including, front version 6 dropmember, frame stiffener, 24x15 rear trailing arm setup, watts link, and bolt on body drop.

A few other came in later and I'll highlight those as the photos come in.

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

We began by stripping down the entire truck. Made it this far with 2 of us in about 4 hours.

Then moved along to the rear of the truck and the 24x15 kit, starting with the notch and bridge assemblies

Followed by the frame stiffener, which also mounts the trailing arms and the carrier bearing for the two piece drive shaft.

Here's the frame with everything but the watts link installed

Before setting the engine in I ran a stainless brake line from side to side

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

Then sat the brand new LS3 engine with a 4L65E trans from Turnkey Engine Supply in place.

The pulley setup is from All American Billet. The engine covers needed a tad bit of trimming over the AC compressor.

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

I went with a set of ceramic coated headers from Sanderson that are meant for a s10 conversion. The fit perfectly other than one small area on the Porterbuilt stuff that needed a small notch.

With the cab back on (after cleaning up the firewall of all unnecessary holes and welding in a Porterbuilt firewall filler panel) we made sure everything fit nicely. Shocks come kind of close to the firewall and the driver's side engine cover needs a small amount of trimming.

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

Then it was on to the exhaust. We opted for 3" from the collector back. All mandrel bends that have been cut and tig welded together. We have it running through 3" Black Widow Pro-series polished stainless mufflers. It goes to the outside of the frame rails so we can eventually exit it out at the rear bumper. We need to get the bed and bumper back on for this first though.

And here's where we are today. I threw a fender on, just to see it tucking some wheel. I'll update the thread as we make more progress.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

I'll have to look to make sure, but if I remember correctly... fronts are 265/30R22 and rears are 335/30R22

I just checked out your website. I didn't see anything for the 73-87 C10's. Do you have something for them? Looks like a nice product!

Re: Tre 5 Customs 1980 C10 build

Is porterbuilt going to be offering the parts you picked up for this? I know on their site they only have the frame brace listed for 67-72 c10s. I want one for 73-87 c10s

Eventually they will be. I got kit number 1! Nate and I have a great relationship and he let me get a hold of the kit before it was actually released. There were a few bugs to work out because these squarebody frames have a lot of differences between the years and where they were sold. Once he works on my feedback from me and when he gets done with the one at his shop I'm sure he'll release it to the public.
