My idea is two of these of these with one of these these with this component set this component set and this head unit. this head unit.Where do i go from here? do i need 6.5''s or smaller or am i alright with this set up? What dash speaker do you guys recommend? i have access to a full bodyshop so a MDF and 'Glass console/kick panel set up isnt impossible. Thanks.

For some reason, some people don't recommend 6x9 speakers. I don't know why. You might want to look at 6.5" components instead. For the dash, look for some really good 3.5" speakers and run them on deck power only for front fill. Looks like it will sound great!

Re: My Planned Setup. Also what would you recommend?

I would go with some Focal components such as a AS165 seprates, and then do custom fiberglass kick panels.

If you have the tools etc to build a custom enclosure I would recommend a pair of JL Audio 10TW1-4's behind the seat then us an amp like a JL Audio XD500/3 amplifier to power it all. The deck you picked out is good, however I would recommend going with the DEH-X8700BS deck as it has higher pre amp outputs for the amp, a better EQ, and then a rear USB that you can route to the glove box and have it look much cleaner.

Re: My Planned Setup. Also what would you recommend?

cd head units are so old fashion
does anyone use anything but usb or bluetooth anymore?

your 4x50w head unit is almost as big as the 4x60w amp you have picked out
if your driving 4 speakers get a 400w 4x100w amp
6x9 speakers work better in the rear window deck of a car, go with 5.25'' components

i don't see any amps for your subs and realistically a single 12 will work well in your truck
you need at least a 600w mono amp to drive each sub

think about where 3 amps are going to be mounted too
i made a sub/amp/battery enclose for my 58 truk to go where the gas tank use to be

amps on this side

single 10'' sub and battery on this side

Nice job ogre!! Your question "does anybody use anything but usb or bluetooth"?? I started to look into a hd drive unit to plug into an aux input. Your thoughts are appreciated!!

Re: My Planned Setup. Also what would you recommend?

i had a hard drive in my dd for a while, it did not work well
with usb thumb drives going up to 164gb i wouldn't use a hd ever again
i have a 8gb thumb drive in truk with approx 1600 mp3 files
if you figure 3 min per song, that's 80 hours of music
i never change it, just play full random

my head unit is a single din dvd player so it also can play 4.7gb dvd mp3 files
it takes a long time to read all the files on the dvd, so i just use the thumb drive; it reads fast

if you use a thumb drive: most mp3 players can't read over 160 files
so break your music into folders with 120 files in each folder
on full random it will read all your music

the usb port is usually on the front, a standard thumb drive will stick out and possibly break off
patriot sells some nice thumb drives that only stick out a 1/4''

Re: My Planned Setup. Also what would you recommend?

Ogre, thanks for taking the time to reply!

Years ago i stuck some money in minidisc ( i can just image the thoughts) and like it for the cd quality, fairly small, can't scratch, etc. I've had my truck for 12 years and so the system uses them. But i would consider something newer but (not sure on this) thought all mp3 were digitally compressed and not cd quality?? I don't want to offend anyone here so i've been hesitant to post. Does thumb drive store in cd quality??? I don't mind purchasing multiple drives to get what i want even if cd level of audio playback takes a lot more space! Obviously quality audio equipment is important to you by the looks of the time you spent on the 58!

Any input would be great, thanks, Brian F.

Re: My Planned Setup. Also what would you recommend?

cd quality in a truck?
with all the squeaks, rattles, road and motor noise i'm not concerned about cd quality
mp3s are compressed, but it's good enough sound for ogre ears
i listen to mostly hard rock, classic rock and blues rock and tend to crank up the volume

my bluetooth comment was for most here, ogre still has a dumb flip phone, i'm good with that too
