full flare running boards on square body

i am a big fan of the full flare fiberglass running boards that were installed on 88-98 chevy and gmc trucks and suburbans the only running boards i can seem to find for square bodys are the sheet metal type. but recently i was driveing through the small town of salley S.C. and in a back yard i saw a mid 80's suburban with the full flare type i was wondering if the running boards for the 88-98s will fit a 73-87 or if anyone has made them fit, if your square body has these please upload a picture sorry for the long post thanks

Re: full flare running boards on square body

Ha! I got a pair of those (from a 91 Burban) that you could have if you weren't so far away. I got tired of all that crap hanging down and the bolts were always coming loose and rattling.

But I'm sure they're not even worth shipping since they're about eight feet long. Someday they will probably go in for aluminum recycling.

Re: full flare running boards on square body

You could probably make the Suburban ones work. Obviously they would need to be cut at the bed to cab joint. The Suburban WB is 129 1/2" while the long bed reg cab WB is 131 1/2" a difference of only 2 inches. Depending how you cap the cuts off you could probably make up the extra inch.

There's got to be an old Burban with running boards sitting around in a junk yard fairly near you.

Re: full flare running boards on square body

When these trucks was new im sure someone probably made them,Now today i doubt anyone makes them the aftermarket will stop making things they make little to no money and push stuff for newer cars and trucks.

Re: full flare running boards on square body

Andrewmp6 is correct i highly doubt anyone would be making these for our squares. There just is not enough demand for custom body parts for trucks in the 40 year old range. Hell even GM does not carry parts for our trucks any longer.... no market for them.
on another note, I was there in the GM dealerships when our trucks were new. I just don't remember and full fiberglass step/flare packages for the pickups. Those did not seem to be around till the mid to late 80's for Suburbans only as i remember and they were part of a total conversion like the vans. The closest thing to what you want were the C30's conversion packages that were like the red C30 posted, aluminum running boards and maybe front flare around the wheel opening. they were done by the same companies that did total custom conversions for vans

Re: full flare running boards on square body

Sorry I misunderstood ...

Mine are just the extruded aluminum ones anyway.
