Picked Up A Gem Today
Today I picked up this 1969 K20 Grass Fire truck. It has just under 16000 original miles. The City Of Cyrus MN bought it in 1979 from Farimont MN and they only put on 5000 miles since then. It original was a SRW and they needed more flotation so they later added duals. It has a 350 4-speed and No-Spin. I am very excited to have had the opportunity to purchase it. It was put up for bids and I was the second highest bid. The winning bidder must of backed out because two weeks later I get a call and they told it was up to me. My mom was the one that put me on to it.
 She even has her eyes on the lookout. Anyway here are some picures.Nathan

Thanks guys I am probably going to clean it up and fix some leaks for now. The only thing about the low miles is it seems to bring many weeps. I was thinking of putting a flat bed off a C50 I have out back and also hoping I can put the hoist in also. It has a chelse PTO in it that I am hoping will work. Have to do a lot more research. The service body has a bit of rust from a leaky water tank. They fixed the tank but not the rust but other than that I am going to enjoy it for now. The PA and lights are pretty cool they will stay.
The siren works but really quite not sure how to get better volume.

I was giving my dad grief because he is a fire bug. I told him it was going to follow him around in the spring when he burns off the CRP. I was digging around in the fold in the glove box and found pictures of it back in the seventys pretty cool.

who knows - if you're thinking craigslist, go for it, start high, throw in an "or best offer" and work your way down from there. I'm with you - it's gorgeous as is, but ya want a K20 to drive on a daily basis - find a bed, dump the tandem and you have a VERY nice low mileage K20. I can even imagine it back to the original white with red int...
Or, you COULD leave it as is. Or paint the bed yeller to match... Endless possibilities. Congrats on a great find. |

Yea I am torn on where to go with the truck I want to put a flatbed off a 1972 c50 I bought for parts. That truck is from South Dakota and in mint condition. I think it may lose its uniqueness. Either way I go I am going to leave everything else the same. I couldn't believe when my mom called me to let me know about the K20. I had never seen it either. It was in service up till five years ago then they used it for a city vehicle. They gentleman I talked to said it was to clumsy for they job so they decided to sell it. I put my bid in and was second guessing myself on the price. They said someone else won the bid but they couldn't get ahold of him. On Father's Day I drove thru Cyrus and seen that it was moved across the road. My heart sank. Called them the next Tuesday and they said they still couldn't get an answer from winning bidder. They moved it because they where moving the old fire hall. It is sitting next to the fire hall in the picture. They later called me and said it was up to me. I was pumped.

As the old saying around here goes " it's your truck, do what you want". Here is what I would do. Treat it as a collectable vehicle. Very few super low mileage trucks exist in this day and age, they are in a unique class. And this one has been kept indoors, a major plus over any vehicle left out in the elements. This truck still has componets which are usually long gone by now. How much would someone here on this site pay to get that pristine original red steering wheel or untorn original red base model seat? IMO, this truck needs to go back to original exterior color, white, and install either a stepside or fleetside bed, whichever bed that is found in the "best condition" however long it takes to find the best, and return back to single rear wheels of course.
