1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
1967 k20 CST PRO BUILD
This is a copy from another thread of mine it the history and direction I want want to take my build I know what your thinking they never made a CST PRO ..HUH JUST READ AN YOULL FIND OUT WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT Thanks for the input it something I really needed to hear something positive lol I'll post build thread and more detail on build .... Even if it was uber rare (because of motor ... Come on hatters keep hating on my motor) I will be building my dream truck 4x4 as I have a kinda one of a kind idea for it...(one day when I was 16 and got home from driving side ways lol I told my rusty ... Really rusty c20 that I would restore it to make it happy lol it was my first truck/car it's what I learned to drift in ... I just never knew what I wanted to do cause of so many options to choose from ... So with that said the time went by now several years gone by I got in to 4x4ing an wanted to save as much of the original truck I promised to restore not only for me but it was the first truck my 2 girls (golden lab sisters same litter ( so Dna number matching) ) rode in an toke them to the beach in so it means a lot to them when I removed the cab off the chassis they where upset an deviated looks on there faces ... Plus all through school I always got bullied an cause of that I never got good grades so when I toke a test in school an got 100% my uncle who bought it in 68 that I was buying it from for $500 gave it to me as a present for my good grade an hard effort so it has a lot of sentimental value (so even if It was uber rare I would have probably kept it an not sold not even for a million) so then I started looking in to k frame swap to build a beater 4x4 with heavy duty running gear and so I picked up a 69 k20 frame , decent bed (a lil dented but not rusted like my 67 bed was from dogs) leaf springs, front Dana 44 CK ,gm 14 bolt that was mostly parted but it had title and got it for $75 yes $75 not $750 (as the 14 bolt alone goes for $350 in my area) so boom I had my base platform and most of every thing I needed to start but then it sat for a while cause serious depression hit then I got better did some work and boom depression hit again then it cleared up then I broke my hand (current ) so my therapy project is just sitting but it's gave me the idea that I have now witch is ..( ever herd of a Toyota TRD if so in 2015 they started making there TRD PRO series witch for those who don't know is a more capable off road package) so the idea sparked in my head of what if in 67-72 Chevy made a CST PRO (K series CST that's factory looking and is a very capable off road rig ) so I'm using the best of the off-road parts from 67-72 used on Chevys to put together a kool package all the way down to a custom factory looking spid with my options on it .. So I think my truck we'll be very happy when done ... I'll post build thread link soon on what I have Lol I can write a freaken Novel on this page this just chapter one

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
Then I bought some used 35x12.50r16.5 BFG tires and rims for rollers for $100 .. It was fun getting it home towing a heavy car hauler from uhaul and all the weight towards the rear of the trail in the dumping rain that was flooding ever rut in the high way hydro planning down the freeway fish tailing at 45 mph .. It was 1 hour an a half to get there 4 hour an a half back lol .. Towing with a 90 c2500 in that condition with those circumstances is NOT RECOMMENDED but got it home an this is what it looked like

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
I pulled the motor an trans out of my c20 CST , the rear HO52 Detroit locked 4:57 and toke the cab off with the front clip cleaned up the front of the k20 frame painted it black ( gotta take every thing off again cause at time I couldn't afford sand blasting) dropped the cab and front clip on .. Befor that I sanded the 69 bed down an primered it ... Was super hot out beautiful out (and not in the forecast ) it rain that night on my primer job this is what it currently looks like

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
This is a ruff build sheet of what imma do
Era correct for 67-72 production use parts 67 CST Factory 327 4 bolt LJ (I'll build into a high performance motor with a supercharger) Muncie SM420 w/granny low (don't quote but I believe it's 7:05) T221 Rockwell Front Dana 44 CK 4:56 ARB LOCKED rear HO52 4:57 Detroit locked Dual aux tanks w/ suburban tank in rear (remove tank from behind set) Modern delco style dual battery's High amp alt Ac 67 cab an front clip , 69 bed with side marker Factory Gun rack I believe it's (h26 interior an custom pattern ) with the CST interior Gloss black bumpers , grill trim , badges , mirrors , custom grill mesh an smoked Clarence lights I'm gunna use a bumper that has turn signal cut outs to run clear aux lighting (keeping actual turn signals in grill) modern delco style push button radio and speakers Full gauge assembly including tac an vac Bed armor CST PRO stamped into the bed sides (just like the TRD PRO) Hidden winch box behind factory bumper with a license plate snap mount fair lead cover( so you won't know it's there) Paint Toyota Tundra inferno red Oh an rims and tires I'm gunna get custom 16.5 8 lug rally rims (no center cap) Painted color of truck gloss black trim ring and lugs ... Oh plus the trim ring (not made out of thin crap) is gunna also be a beadlock ring This is so far what I can think of ... I know there's a lot more I'm missing I thought on so many different designs that this is the best one I like hope you guys an gals enjoy

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
Looks like a cool start to me. A few things I've noticed that may be a little easier on you in the future that can be taken care of while its apart are: that sm420/t221 combo is hard to find replacement parts for. The 465/205 combo has a much better aftermarket following than the other. This is especially helpful when the 45+ year old running gear we are dealing with does wear out. Also 16.5 wheels are getting hard to find rubber for. The ho52 eaton is strong but it's pricey/difficult to find break parts for. These are just some "FYI's" I thought of as I read your plans. Definitely looks like a cool project tho and I will be following along for the ride. Best of luck on your build!

Quote:
I can buy a fully rebuilt sm420 for $750 + the sm420 1st like 7:05 and the sm465 1st is 6:50 not to big of difference but when on the rocks it matters Super swapper still makes tires for 16.5 (not only are the swappers really capable but there era correct for what guys wheeled with in the days) An I know of the only web site known so far that specialize in the ho rear parts I'm building it with the best specs I can find of 67 parts ... My experience is the internet is filled with 98% bs 1% helpful info an 1% of what your looking for an as I've been researching these thing (not pointing at you by any means) but when people search something how long they look 30 mins a hour or the local part store can't find .. But research something till I find it like at lest 5 to 6 hours a day for 4 to 5 years you'll eventually find what you looking for or maybe search something differently ... But thanks for following my build

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
At the moment set aside the possibility of the truck being rare. All of that goes out the window once things start being changed. Also if your being told custom trucks[customized, not trim level] are worth more than originals that is far from true. If a person builds a customized truck they way they want[I feel you should build it just like you want] then in case the time comes for it to leave [some say they will keep them forever but life happens]and you have built it the way you want it dramatically reduces the potential sales pool. More people had rather buy close to original then change it to what they want not what you want.
Now with all that being said I think you should build it the way you want then have the truck you want. I think you have some good ideas and the time off with your hand can help you make a plan instead of jumping headlong into it then changing mid build. Enjoy. Jim |

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
Well the truck that might have been rare had its rusted bed a frame scrapted so at this point there's no going back so I'm gunna build it to my fantasy specs of what I think would have been kool if factory made that way if you catch my drift
( like a concept artist for gm that never got made type of deal I want its main fundamentals to have been plossible in 67 beside a few small things )

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
I want to get the bed sides stamped with lettering that's says " CST PRO " like the tundra TRD pro has any one that's viewing do you know of a place ... I can't imagine that's lot of places but there should be a few ... I figure that actual bed side won't be able to be stamped do to metal stretching or shrinking from being pressed and be more cost effective on shipping to have a metal sheet stamped then bed cut out an panels welded in like a patch ... Any thoughts on what would be the best way and where I can get it done at would be helpful I want the stamp to look like this except "CST PRO "

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
So now that my phone broke I can't find the website I book marked that's a highly elusive web site that sell HO52 parts sad day
So now with that said I got to rethink my build So what axles should I run ? Gm 14 front Gm 14 bolt shaved rear ? Rock jock d60 front Gm 14 bolt shaved rear Any suggestions? I have already a gm 14 bolt rear ( an can pull the Detroit out of the ho52 to put in the 14b ) Completely lost at this moment but I have quite a bit of time to think (do to broken hand) I'm pretty sure of what I want to do with most of my truck .. But I got so many different designs in my head ... I just thought that a vintage 4x4 style build using era correct parts would spark interest in the ever so small vintage 4x4ing world but most people just ether use a beat up vintage to wheel an not care about damaging it or they restore it all nice an pretty an afraid of having to go back an do body work... so I guess at this point I'm not gunna do era match simply cause of all my research (4 years worth of manipulating spiders to find that website ) that was lost when my phone broke so some ideas maybe of what direction to go but these are the basics I want: Cherry body 327 motor . mabey supercharged Or high performance 6 cylinder 4btbi turbo charged w/ custom made block Sm420(can buy them completely rebuilt $750) or maybe a five speed if it has 1st gear comparable to 7:05 Would like to run dual t case (have any good combo options) The Tranny I can order with adapter to mate to Dana 18, 1941-1971 Dana 20, 1962-1979 Dana 300, 1980-1986 New Process Jeep 208, 219 & 229 New Process 207, 231, 241OR, 242 & 249 Axles gears 4:56s , maybe 5:38s Detroit locked rear , ARB air locked front Maybe hybrid axles Electric 15k-18k winch Beadlock rims did want 16.5s but at this point now it don't mater Would love to have DT 4 link with dual coil overs w/ separate resivor (cause leaf springs don't mater now ) So right now I'm back in limbo

Re: 1967 k20 ( CST PRO ) build
can I make a humble suggestion? since its not going to be origonal maybe you could consider a 205 rather than the 221.those 221's are getting hard to find and are valuable to restorers while the 205's are much stronger and quite common. that being said maybe consider a 4500 5 speed. up front costs would be more but long term costs would be much less and it could handle a blown motor better than a 420/465 combo with a 221.

D44 CKnuckle front , HO52 rear 4:56 detroit locked , 327 sbc (67) , an i got free or /free part of another deal to take or leave (compromising 420 for 465) a 465/205 but it had no bell houseing , an was flooded with water , so i started looking around in my area it was $125 for bellhouseing , i found a mated advertised 465/205 for $120 so jumped on it , didnt think much till i got it home several months later looked at it an lol it was a sm420/t221 (destiney right) since then iv slowly aquired more of what i needed an is/are nearly all what i need , but over the time of course my truck rusted more (who ever herd of these trucks rusting more JK JK) an at this point i need to do rust repair , (Cab supports are nearly gone) but i am a welder (collage trained) so not to scary just need to dish the money for pannels ($500ish to do cab) but i appresiate the humbleness XD 😄, peice wize i just need bell Linkage? (after few beers idk what it was called) linkage from frame to fork , but its going to what i originaly wanted D44 CK HO52 327 sm420 (7:05) T221 ,the recent problems i have ran into is the weird HO52 brake size (gunna hybrid 14b Rear drums for that) oh an my HO Frooze , im hopeing it was the brakes an not the bearings but am gunna keep it original (what i want) XD but its nice to know people are still interested in this thread an the love an support on the form is apperiated (? wish spell checked worked on this site on phone) but im very excited for what the future holds for this build , even have fun wireing to do for the whole thing XD an to cheap to buy premaid so 100ft reels an oem weather conectors from jegs here i come , THANK VERY MUCH FOR THE HUMBLE SUGGESTIN , BLESSING
