Hey Everyone,

For our first build log we wanted to start off with something big. This is Matt Overton's C10. This truck came to us for a full teardown and rebuild. It was a california car before its life here with us. The truck had very little rust and appeared to be at an already really good starting point. The end goal for this build is a truck to drive around town with plenty of power under the hood provided by the LS3. We are going to give daily updates about what is going on with this build so stay tuned.

First things first, the tear down. We started tearing this apart to get the frame out from under it to start preparing it for powder coating. The body was off to start body work.

I was thinking the same thing... I hope mine looks that good when it is done.

I sure am sub'd to see what it will look like when complete.

The answer to that is simple. While this does appear to be a very nice truck to start with, it was not quite as nice as it looks in the pictures. There were multiple issues with the body. It was a solid california truck, but had been used as a truck and when the last people painted it they just filled all the dents instead of fixing it correctly.

There were also several issues with they way the air ride had been installed among some other problems with the way things were put together.

This truck has been a lifelong dream of the owner and he wants to make sure everything is done right and doesnt have to worry about any of it anymore.

Keep following along to see what some of the problems were, and to see how amazing this thing is coming out.

Disassembly of the truck continues. The further along we go with taking this truck apart the more we notice things that are not quite right. The truck was used as a work truck for a good part of its life in california and the body of this truck shows it. After coming back from blast we started to see just how much this truck was used and the bed was the worst part. Filler was piled high in some areas while others where not repaired correctly years ago. Now on to the fun part, body work.

So the body work continues and as it progresses we continue to notice more and more filler. While the body work continues on most of the body panels we dragged the cab over to our fabrication side for some modifications. The customer wanted to remove the drip rails from around the cab to give it more of a modern look. With some of the panels finishing up on the body work side we decided to mock up some of them.

Next time we start getting into cab bodywork and before long we are into paint!

The truck had a aluminum tank when it came to our shop. We are going to use this existing tank, we are adding a areomotive in tank pump to supply plenty of fuel to the modern engine under the hood more on that later. The truck will also be fitted with a corvette filter and regulator and the the whole system replumed.

The great thing about these old trucks is there are plenty of donor long beds out there that you can get bed patches from so even compound curve areas like the tailight section are easy to fix.
It looks like you are off to a good start, I am going along for the ride.

Mock-up continues on the truck, After this is done it time to get it in the paint booth to get some primer surfacer on it. The customer decided that he wanted to weld the tailgate solid on this build and I have to say it's looking great. The frame is off getting powder coated with a silver vein finish. After it comes back, assembly will begin on the frame to get it ready to the body to sit back down on.

Now the fun begins! The frame coming back from powder coat the reassembly of the frame can begin. The frame was powder coated in a amazing looking silver vein powder coat. We got a new Moser 12 bolt under the rear end. To power this beast is a stock LS3 crate engine straight from GM. This is backed up to 4L70. This combo should give this truck plenty of power to send this truck rocketing down the road. Keeping all the power in check is matching sets of Wilwood 6-piston brake kits. These provided amazing function and will look great behind the Billet wheels Matt has selected for the build more on that soon! We went with a full custom exhaust for the truck to give a great sound. We decided to go for dual spintech exhaust with 2.5" piping in and out.

Pulling the cab out of the booth and the paint looks amazing. We couldn't be happier with it. The underside of the cab is coated in raptor liner. This is a durable coat to help protect the underside of the cab from any rust. The firewall is painted in a color that will really make the engine bay of this truck stand out. The exact formula for this color is our little secret . The pictures of the paint do not do the car the justice it deserves and once the wet sanding and buffing are complete this will be even more true. We are getting close to getting everything in the final home stretch of this project.

With the cab coming out of paint it was on to buffing. In the past we have shot plenty of black cars in the past that have all turned out great, this one is no exception. After the wet sanding and the buffing were done you could easily use it as a mirror. The pictures really don't do it justice. Time to drop the cab back down on the frame for the final assembly. Matt has decided on the Billet Specialties Bonneville S wheels, and they already look great on the car. These will play in nicely with the other small accents of the car.
