Detent cable bracket

Is the bracket the same for TH350 and 700R4? I'm using an Edelbrock carb also.

I may be wrong but I believe they are different.

Re: Detent cable bracket

I don't see how they could be the same. The th350 just has a kick down cable that gets a tug when the throttle hits wide open. The 700r4 uses a TV cable that modulates with throttle position (constant motion).

Re: Detent cable bracket

You also need to carefully adjust the TV cable on the OD transmissions to prevent early valve body failure. There's a clip that you pull up on and seat the cable in fully-once mounted, connect to carb, then slowly open throttle up fully, once you have the throttle fully open, snap the clip back down-your TV is now adjusted. You need to use the correct bracket too though-Edelbrock has a dedicated TV cable bracket for use with their carbs-don't try to use a stock OD bracket from a Q-Jet engine....just order the correct bracket from Edelbrock-Summit/Jegs whatever.

Re: Detent cable bracket

No problem. I recently put a TCI 700R4 in an older truck and that's how I set it up. OD came in right at 40MPH. It uses a vacuum controlled lockup switch which required @ least 15 inches of vacuum for 20 seconds or longer to engage-once engaged, OD stayed in placed unless manifold vacuum dropped below 15 inches in which case tranny shifted down to 3rd gear. Combine that with factory cruise and it was a nice drive on the freeway-OD would engage and disengage without any problems with cruise set-so just make sure you set the TV cable and you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: Detent cable bracket

I may be stupid but I don't think mine is vacuum controlled.

He is talking about the vacuum switch TCI uses for the Converter lockup wiring harness. It helps control converter lockup based on engine vacuum.

TCI has a Throttle cable/TV cable bracket to fit your carb. PM me if you have any questions about it.

Where's the vacuum switch? Have any reference pictures?

Re: Detent cable bracket

If your truck has a factory OD, no need for the adjustable switch....just buy the correct bracket for your carb:

Edelbrock/Carter AFB carb takes a B&M #64511
Holley carb takes a B&M #64510

Now, if your truck did not have OD originally, you also need a lockup kit-I'd recommend this one:

Besides my harnesses I am also a full service performance parts retailer as well-let me know if there's anything you need or have questions about!

Re: Detent cable bracket

Mine is an 80 so it did not have OD. What happens without it? I've been driving it without the cable hooked up so far. Once I correct that what happens if the lockup is not installed?

Re: Detent cable bracket

If the TV cable isn't adjusted properly the pressure inside the valvebody can create excess heat and eventually it can fail to shift properly then not at all. Sometimes it can take awhile but a poorly (or not at all) connected TV cable is going to ruin your transmission.

Do you know if GM made a throttle cable/TV cable bracket to fit a Qjet that bolts down with the rear carb bolts for the th700?
