Detroit 6v-53 questions
Hey guys, still working a deal on a pair of trucks both having 6v-53's in them and I got to thinking that i did not know a lot about them. One thing in particular is ... are they Even or ODD fire? yeah I know we don't think of diesels like that but ...a 6 cylinder 90 degree firing order does not break up nicely on a shared rod journal ( chevy 90 degree V6's fell into two categories even and odd fire... even fires had offset rod journals odd fires had shared journals like the V-8) so do the detroit "V" engines share rod journals or are they all separate? how many main bearings do they have ?
too much time to think Dan |

Re: Detroit 6v-53 questions
V anything is shared. On a 6v53 a cylinder fires every 60 degrees on every revolution. 4 mains

I don't really see how that can happen, considering the 90 degree "V" angle unless the detroits are 60 degree motors? As far as "who cares" well I guess I do, I am not saying it will make a difference to me, I am just curious and since I have never had one apart I wanted to know what was inside. and thank you for the replies |
