Factory assembly manual

Does anybody have any comments on the uses of this book? Is it a much needed tool or is there something else?

If its a must, I will be putting a posting on the parts board looking for one. Half priced used I hope...LOL

For us guys interested in stock or nearly so, I think it's necessary. For those who want to go prostreet or otherwise heavily modify, it's probably mostly a curiosity.

Or a "fetish" more than curiosity palallin...LOL My truck will be nowhere near stock when I finish it, but I'm still always looking for GM literature...it's kinda like those guys that have a tow hook "fetish", or hubcaps, or glovebox doors...lol

I've found it handy for trying to put something back together that you've never seen right. Like the throttle linkage on my truck, or the sway bar.

Even if you're going pro-street, I imagine it's nice sometimes to see exactly how things should have been assembled.

I have found the book very handy after I got my truck back from the paintshop, and putting it all back together again.
The only downside to the book is there is no index.
None of the pages, apart from a few from '72 have no page number, so expect to do a lot of browsing to the pages.

Cya,
Edmond

assembly manual

OK, if you get one does it have to be year specific? I would assume so since badge placement, carb. linkages etc. changed over the years. Or are most of the specs. and such the same year to year.

The assembly manual covers 67-72 trucks, blazers, burbs, and large (heavy) trucks. The different years are sort of split up into different sections.

That book is by far, worth the money. I used it a lot on my frame-up rebuild, and I did not go anywhere close to stock. It's especially helpful if you have a 5 year project like me, because you forget where things go in that time span.

How would you guys like the factory manual on CD. Organized and indexed. You would be able to quickly search and print pages as needed? Since my primary function in life is a computer geek this is easily accomplished by me but I need to hook up with someone who has one(one for each year that is created).

Well it would depend on a number of factors. How willing someone is to share their manuals, the quality of the manuals that I get to use, how many pages there are? How many different manuals there are. I am assuming there is one for each year. Now would be the time to hash all that out. So lets start with how many years there are? How many pages on avg? How is it bound(glued pages or in a binder?) Of course the years that would be available first would depend on what manuals I get first. Anyone that is willing to share their manuals will of course get a free copy of every year CD I make. The last thing I will have to deal with is the copyright holder. We will have to work out an agreement. If all goes well I could see the first manual I do being released in about 30-45 days. First one will take the longest, the later ones would benifit from having most of the layouts done with the first one. Cost wise is very hard to determine just yet, but I will have a better idea once I know some of the other variables.
